It's Japanese English for omelet rice. It's basically fried rice wrapped in a paperthin omelet with either ketchup or don cass sauce on it. It's pretty innocuous, and one of the few things I can bring myself to eat from a Korean restaurant before 11 a.m.
I love Korean food, but not for breakfast. |

Hey all, great thread!!
I wonder if anyone can help me out here. Last year I lived in Yangjae and I used to eat a dish called (bi bim mandu). It's a great hangover meal. You get a plate of pancakes made from the mandu dough and a heap of shredded veg. Mix the veg in the hot sauce, roll it up in the pancake and enjoy. They also did a great set for two with , , (?) for 5,000 won.
I live in north Seoul now and can't find a restaurant that serves it anywhere. In fact some of my Korean colleagues have never even heard of it!
So if anyone knows of a restaurant that serves in north or central Seoul please, please, please let me know! |

So I've been going to a Korean resturaunt a few times a week to try different things thanks to this forum.
Which brings me to another question I'll pose to people that have been in Korea for longer than me. Is there any real rule for when you use your chopsticks and when you use a spoon? For example, say I'm eating Ұ, which I'm eating with chopsticks, is it a breach of etiquete to eat the rice with a spoon? I have a hell of a time eating rice with metal chopsticks. |

| Why not use chopsticks for your soup?! Makes no sense does it? Same with using sticks for rice. Use whatever you what or feel comfortable with....a breach of etiquete is not important when trying to enjoy ones meal! Emily Post would tell you the same thing...use whatever you are comfortable with! |

I agree with hellofaniceguy that you should use what you're comfortable with, but since you asked...
Koreans usually use their spoon for soup (except for the long noodles, of course) and rice, and rice based dishes (bibimbap, omurice, etc.). They eat pretty much everything else with their chopsticks. While I don't think anyone will knock your chopsticks out of your hand if you eat your rice with them, I've gotten some comments from Koreans asking me why I use my chopsticks to eat rice. It's usually just because it seems easier than switching back and forth constantly.
There's only one real "rule", and that's don't ever stick your chopsticks in your rice pointing upwards and leave them there. It looks like a funeral ritual, so it's offensive. |

Ok thanks guys. I guess I'm just self conscience when I'm out by myself around a group of Koreans. I'll just whatever I feel like now. |

I see Korean people eating rice with chopsticks all the time. But, yeah dude, spoon, sticks, whatever...Just don't eat it with your hands. |
