Sounds simple enough!
But....it's been many a year since I made some!
For a few of my classes...I'll introduce carmel apple making for the young ones.
Let's see...I need a pot, burner, popsicle sticks, wax paper, apples and carmel.
E-mart sells these large bags of carmel squares, individually wraped, get the class to unwrap a few bags, put them into the pot and melt them (carmel...not the kids) and dip the apples in. Did I miss anything or good to go with what I posted?
I seem to recall adding a few teaspoons of water to the carmel mix. But...how much mix? Someone mentioned using carmel syrup...like the stuff coffee shops use when making speciality drinks.
Suggestions?
Thanks! |

| I'd recommend gradually adding butter as the mixure melts to smooth it out. Also, set yourself up a little double boiler action, like put the caramel in a metal bowl floating in a pan of water. Caramel is sugar, and sugar burns. |

| Thank you! Someone also mentioned using the microwave. I'll try both the double boiler and m-wave. |

I found this recipe on the internet. (There are lots of others.)
INGREDIENTS:
6 apples
1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
2 tablespoons milk
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIRECTIONS:
Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Butter a baking sheet.
Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly.
Roll each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on prepared sheet to set. |
