| On a serious note, I bought a fan, flipped through the instruction book, and saw a picture, warning against the decrepid use of fans while sleeping. |

| Told that "fan deaths" are unknown outside Korea, some locals claim Koreans are uniquely vulnerable due to a peculiarity either of their own physiology or of Korean fans. No argument here. Anybody who'd believe something like this definitely qualifies as peculiar. |

I teach a morning adult class this spring. One of the students is a doctor of internal medicine. He's the same age as me, and is a really good guy. He specializes in respiratory ailments. Just for giggles yesterday I asked his opinion about fan death and he - not surprisingly - said it was true. He seemed very surprised when I briefly commented that it was a Korean thing.
I refrained from going through the whole "where does the oxygen go", and "why don't people die in the wind" line of logical questioning, as I didn't want to humiliate him and insult his professionalism. |

A DOCTOR believes this??????? You got to be kidding! I don't want to be treated by him. He probably uses leaches in his treatments
incredible...then again over half my students when asked "you are the first floor, the elevator is on the third floor, you want to go to the sixth floor, what button to you push?" responded with "down" yup, down go figure.... |

| I don't like to point out typos or anything, but it's the third time in 24 hours that I've seen "leeches" spelled as "leaches". Did I miss the big European conversion of this word? |

| Getting a little off topic here, but did anyone else always just call leeches bloodsuckers? I never heard them called leeches until I was in university. |

And that one cop can't even squat properly. This is really fishy. What waygook drew that cartoon? |

Wow....this is interesting..
Actually my husband's mother also warned him of using a fan at night....however when I got here....the first night I turned it on...he informed me of this....to which I replied....I've used a fan at night almost all of my life and I've survived this long.. Since then we had the fan on every night....but I was also warned of this in canada by an older lady....who said something about being able to get pneumonia from using a fan at night....and she was canadian....was anyone else ever told anything like that? It makes no difference to me....my fan will be on every night.. |

| In Florida, just about every room has a ceiling fan in it... We might be dumb down there but we are still alive. |

I would also punch 'down' in that situation. OK, so I didn't ride in an elevator until at least 4th Grade. We didn't have 3 story buildings in Boondockville, unless you count the attic in the doctor's house.
I dunno though. Somehow someone who makes a big deal of his superior elevator-button-pushing-knowledge loses some of his claim to sophistication. |
