I assume most everybody knows about the petition I started to change the resident registration system so that foreigners and gyopos abroad who don't have numbers can register online like all Koreans can? I would have done it just for us, the foreigners living in Korea, but since there's quite a number of gyopos living abroad who won't be coming back to Korea any time soon but still use Korean internet sites a lot, a mere recognition of our numbers won't solve the problem.
Anyway, that's not the point of this post...I'm back in Korea in two days. Foreigners in Korea aren't supposed to engage in political activities and I wonder if this counts as one. I assume it does, so should I keep looking for signatories while I'm there or just let it lie for a while? We've already amassed 1634 signatures so far so there's quite a bit of interest. I started this back in August if I remember correctly.
I searched around a bit for the penalties incurred as a foreigner engaging in political activity but couldn't find anything. |

Who says you're a foreigner? Who says you're in Korea? You're a figure on an Internet discussion site. Until you actually submit the petition to someone (at which time it wouldn't even have to be 'your' petition), I say keep up the good fight. |

Sorry, I doubt the petition will ever be considered some sort of 'threat' nor will they have a file on you like the FBI does.
That is my guess. |

I think that political activity by foreigners ban was directed more at the illegal immigrants who protest their work conditions regularly...not completely sure, though.
A petition to make websites more accessible to non-Koreans so that Korean companies can possibly make more money is unlikely to piss anyone off too much. |
