Our school makes us pay in one big chunk at the end. Same with Korean teachers.

My big chunk was a whopping 40,000 won.

If you two are hogwan jockies and you actually getting refunds then you are part of a very small group which hasn't been defrauded by their employer over the taxes they pay and the arrival of those taxes at the tax office. Wink

Thats all you got back???
You should be taxes at a very low rate and get most of it back.
I got over 10x that amount back.
Ask for the documentation and have someone translate it.

What low rate?

Taxes confuse me. I was paying 30,000 won plus 3,000 on an income of 1.9M. Before I was paying 3% plus 0.3%. Currently I'm not sure what I'm paying. My contract says 5% plus 0.5%, but I don't pay that.

My monthly tax deduction at my 2nd job was 18,000 and I was making 1.9 million. I paid double the taxes and made 100,000 at my first hogwon job. I have no idea how these hogwon owners come up with the tax deductions. I have a feeling the big hogwons are a bit more professional when it comes to that kind of thing.
