I had:
- these weird spicy dark brown potato-like things. Didn't like it.
- this spicy vegetable stuff that looks a bit like pasta. No good.
- this seafood/onion tasting soup. The soup bown was actually clear with a bit of onion floating around in it. Can't say I liked this either.
- white rice. I can live on this stuff, I love it so much.
- Some pretty spicy beef served on this grill-like thing. The korean waitress told me that the Koreans eat it with their hands. When in Rome... anyway, I loved it.
So that makes.. 2 out of 5
Anyone have any suggestions of other Korean food to try? Thanks. |

From an amateur cook I like tak doori tang and tak kalbi ... both chicken dishes, both a little hot. I hesitate to say that any Korean food is spicy as they use so few spices in their cooking.
When i do the cooking for my wife (and sometimes her family) they are amazed at how many spice jars I pull out of the cupboard and are fascinated by the fact that all my recipes seem to start with a bottle of drinkable red that has to be comprehensively tested before it can considered OK for cooking. |

Here are some things,
Lotteria - Korea's equivalent to MacDonald's
Mandu - dumplings
RaMyon - noodles
Bibimbab - rice and vegetables with an egg
SamKyeopSal - roasted pork rations
You will get to Korean food sooner or later.
My personal experience involved not liking many things but I got used to tolerate eating things I never liked before (to an extent). So, I am eating real Korean food now; like seaweed soup, and kimchi soup, etc. |

My top 3 Korean foods of all time!
Galbi variations...except cheap sam-gyup-sal....
Dak-tori-tang.........Delightful chunks of chicken jostling with impressive chunks of Potato and carrot and unidentified veg. All skinny-dipping in a spicy sauce. You need a good wash-up after eating this which is a sure sign of great food!!
Sam-ga-kimbab.......... My lunch staple. Quick, easy, tasty triangles of rice and an unidentified filling all wrapped in Captain Birdeyes best seaweed! It took me 3 years to work out how to open them properly (that's not a joke) but now I can't get enough and reguarly berate my Family Mart ajumma if she doesn't get in the kinds I like. |

It's ok. Here are my suggestions.
Shabu-Shabu - get a Korean buddy to take you to a shabu-shabu restaurant. Wonderful tasting beef.
Naengmyon - cold buckwheat noodles in the summer, very refreshing, especially if they put apple slices in it.
Dol Sot Pibimpap - a mixture of fresh vegetables, a fried egg, some cooked beef, rice and hot pepper sauce, served in a stone bowl that is heated. Really good cold weather day dish.
Ddeok-guk - this is a soup, served piping hot containing slices of cooked ddeok (rice cake). It tastes like a noodle soup with BIG noodles. The noodles are very chewy, and this is another good cold weather day dish.
Sam Gyap Sal - strips of "bacon" you cook yourself on a griddle, then put in a lettuce leaf with a bit of rice and eat in one big bundle. Shitty taste, too greasy. And your clothes will smell afterwards. Avoid at all costs. |

Mongolian.
Shabbu-shabbu means 'swish-swish' in whatever language Mongolians speak. According to the owner of my favorite shabbu-shabbu restaurant. |
