Current Schedule:
Monday: 2:00 PM - 8:30 PM 5 40 minute classes
Tuesday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 2 60 minute classes
Wednesday: 2:00 PM - 10:00PM 8 40 minute classes
Thursday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 3 60 minute class
Friday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 5 40 minute classes
_________________________________________________

Revised Schedule:
Monday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 5 40 minute classes
Tuesday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 2 60 minute classes
Wednesday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 4 40 minute classes
Thursday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 1 60 minute class
Friday: 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM 5 40 minute classes

The problem is the haggie doesn't open before 2. I don't want to work past 6,(I'd stretch to 7:00) but I have been working the current schedule to get the haggie off the ground. Now I would like to quit because the schedule doesn't look like it will change anytime soon, but I would like to offer him an alternative rather than just quitting on him.

(though quitting is likely the best option not because I don't like the school but because my needs and their needs don't match. Having said that I love teaching at the school and he is a great Korean boss who actually cares about education.)

(Like I have said in another post I have paid my own flight over and visa run so he isn't out money, but me quitting will place him in a bad spot. I plan on giving 6 weeks notice, even if it means he will screw me over which I don't think he will but I have been cautioned against.)

I'm confused. You will be working fewer hours and you're complaining? Maybe I'm just not reading something correctly.

And why on earth are you there on Tuesday/Thursday in the revised schedule for 5 hours if you only teach one or two classes at 60 minutes each?

Could you clarify please?

Man, you're off by 7:00 every night. What's the big deal? I'm never off before 8:30, usually closer to nine, after starting at 2:00 or 3:00. I'm not complaining, mind you, just saying that neither should you.

You won't get many hagwon jobs that finish by 6 or 7!!

Looks like you got lower than average working hours. Why complain?

Right now I work 2-9 (sometimes 10) because even if I only have 1 class he wants me to work my 8 hours...fair enough an 8 hour job is normal at home. (So I just reduced my hours to 7 o'clock in the revised schedule)

Just to clarify it isn't a matter of I am working too many hours at my job, just the specific hours. I came to Korea with my GF and she is working 9-5 and when I work until 10:00 PM we rarely see each other.

(That's how I got into this situation in the first place..I told the guy I would do it for a while until he got going because he really liked me and wanted to hire me)

Anyway, we were planning on staying in Korea indefinitely so being at a fledgliing hagwon with an education oriented director was perfect for me.

Unfortunately/fortunately I was offered a really great uni gig in another country in the area I am trained in (starting sept. 2005). (double the money, double the vacation, double the perks)

With only another 7 months in Korea I would like a chance to spend some time with my GF and I am working on my masters and I would like to finish my black belt in Gumdo before I leave...the schedule just doesn't allow for any of that.

By the way the revised schedule is a proposal I am putting together...I made the hours and now I need to figure out a reasonable pay..I haven't approached him yet...

Don't think it will be a problem...just dumped a class on me Tuesday and Thursday until 10:00 PM Smile

I'll be giving my notice this week. (I'll stay 6 weeks if they want me)

I like how fate steps in at the proper time to make the tough decisions for us.

While I "feel" for those who have bad schedules....remember...you did sign the contract. No one forced anyone to come to korea and work in a hakwon. We all know the hakwon game. If we don't like it...we are free to leave korea anytime. We are not stuck in korea and don't have to put up with any BS.
But...if you have a good schedule...then I am envious! Even being in a university...some schedules are bad!

I had it great however! 8 am and finished at 11 am. All day free with almost 4 months vacation.

But those gigs don't last forever!

What's the holiday schedule for hakwons....lunar new year...February 8/9/10 T/W/T. Middle of the week. I wonder how many hakwons will be nice and give either Monday or Friday off so their employees can have 5 days off in a row?

Goes to show you...hakwons are not about education...it's all about money.

'cept if you had read what I posted you would have noticed the point about contracts is moot...

You kidding???....I'd love the 2-7...it was just something I was proposing to counter when they say I can't leave...(they really like me...and more important the parents really like me...)

I'm working 2-10. If I was here alone it would be a dream shift for me...but with a GF working in the morning it is like a living hell. Smile

*BUMP*

Well it looks like I will be leaving.
If anyone is looking for a really good gig in Anyang you might want to check it out.

You will get an E2 visa.
It pays around 1.5-1.6

Under 20 hours a week at the moment. You will be free in your off time.
Schedule is built around typical hagwon hours 2-10 but they block whenever possible leaving plenty of free time.

Down side is no housing...or allowance...

Most classes under 5 people.

Been paid on time.

I feel bad about leaving especially since they worked my schedule out so I could stay, but something outside of Korea caught my attention and I will be leaving the end of the month.

The Korean staff is great (including the boss (a god-send in Korea I guess) and the curriculum is a cake-walk...(and you can change it any way you see fit.)

I guess this post might get deleted...I'm not sure I am allowed to post it or not.

You should get 2.1 plus housing for a position like that.

I should get 2.1 for getting out of bed... Rolling Eyes

But there are those that look for low hour gigs with an E2.

The schedule has been reduced but right now (not counting camp) I teach a total of 15/ 40 minute class a week. (It will be adjusted for a new person to balance mon/wed/fri)

Monday 3:15-8:20
Wed 4:00-5:20
Friday 2:30-5:20

Tues 4:55-7:05
Thurs ?? (very light) (right now I teach 1 class)

Looking at your revised schedule in your first post, if you get 30,000 per class for your 40min classes, and 35,000 for your 60min classes, and do this for four weeks, you get 2.1M.

That's fair. Plus, you need a place to live.

If there are ten kids in a class, the hagwon is probably getting 100,000 per hour. That's 65,000 for 40min.

Sorry...the *BUMP* and the previous stuff weren't exactly completely tied together....

The schedule isn't the working schedule. That was when I was looking at finding a way to "fix" my schedule to spend some time with my GF who has a public school gig....guess I rolled my eyes too quickly. Smile

Financilly it probably isn't the best gig going, but easy classes, low hours can be appealing...
