I have a new computer I bought in Korea. I installed English XP then I went through and installed East Asian scripts, etc and I added the Korean keyboard. Korean works fine in Word, E-mail, etc...

The problem: it doesn't work in search fields in Explorer. I can type it in the address bar but I can't type it in the search boxes...it will only type English. That means I can't search the web using Korean (and neither can my Korean girlfriend) I never had a problem like this before. Any ideas?

As far as I know, languages have to be installed sperately in browsers. Last i tried it with IE and XP it asked me for the disc. Since I got it from a Korean PC shop, I obviously didnt have the disc.

I could be wrong though

Is the language bar showing when you have the cursor in the box? What happens when you click on the language bar to switch to Korean? Does it just revert back to English when you click the cursor back in the box?

I handed your book off to a Korean publihers (now my editor believe it or not:shock: ) yesterday. You might be hearing from them soon.

I'm on Eng WinXP, and had the same problems.

If you have the Korean IME installed, then you should have a language button sho up in the bottom right corner, near the clock area. Probably says EN.

If it is NOT there, right click, click toolbars, and put a click on Language Bar.

Now do you see it?

Good!

Ok, now go up to the search bar, and click ONCE in it, so the cursor is blinking there. Go back to the language bar, click to change it to Korean IME, then - BEFORE TYPING!!! - click the '/' key 1 time (on my comp, it is the key just to the right of the space bar.

That should do it for ya.

Questions like this generally are faster served over in the tech forum. Smile

Regards,

Glen

ps ~ I can see why Koreans can type so fast. Man, is it laid out easily - consonants to the left, vowels to the right. Cake!

It still says KO for Korean but simply won't type it. I still can't get it to work, even following all the advice here. I did exactly what I did on my last computer but it just does't do it right on this one. I'll keep trying though.

Wow...really? Thanks. It sure would be nice to pick up a real publisher...I'm getting worn out going to the post office every day...it's quite a hike. I hope I hear some good news.

What are you writing, if I may ask? Sorry if you mentioned it elsewhere on here.

I fixed the problem finally. All I did was uncheck some box in advanced features of the langauge bar properties - the one that says don't do this for East Asian languages, doh. It made the language bar disappear, but now the Korean works fine by pressing the Korean-English key. Weird.
