is no longer in existence. Was there yesterday and it was empty, no furniture and they had a sign thanking their customers. |

The one between Shinchon and Idae is surely next in line to close down. That place is always empty.
They make good sandwiches and all... but they're damn expensive. I just can't afford to go there all that often.

Well, I guess that pretty much answers my question (will they be doing the Western breakfasts again?) on that other thread.
Universalis, is the Shinchon/Idae branch as massive as the Itaewon one? I think they could have gotten away with just the ground floor, though I rarely saw even that very packed.
I'm betting TGIF's will move in. I know they've been sniffing around there for ever. What would you LIKE to see there? |

The owner of Scholtzkys also owns North Beach which is across the street. Owns the buildings. Him and his wife are money hungry and are not hurting for money...especially when the prices they charge are too high. Not many westen people shop at North Beach. |

The one near Shinchon/Idae is a single floor, but it's in sort of a sub-basement, below ground below, in a location a bit hard to see from the sidewalk.
But again... I rarely see anyone there. I've eaten there just a few times and was usually the only one there.

The Subway in Itaewon has an award on the wall congratulating them for having the highest sales of any Subway in its first three months.
Now THAT is saying something!
The dude that owns that is fabulous as a person, also. |

I can't believe it took them so long to get a Starbucks in Itaewon.
In all likeliness the empty building will just be filled by yet another Buy The Way. |

Good. I saw that coming as well. The last time I got something from there, it was some kind of rancid shit quality turkey breast. It was obvious they were trying to cut costs and shot themselves in the foot. Same thing happened to Chinese to Go in Gangnam a couple of years ago.
You might get away with cutting quality with Korean food, which has a great number of one time customers, but you cannot do that with outside Korea food as you are dependent on the foreigners living here who will not put up with it. |

Yes, he is a great guy (talk to him through my wife). Have you noticed how long some of the youngings have been working for him? For a fastfood joint, he has a very low turn over rate which says something about him. |

There's also one in COEX near the theater.
I thought the sandwich I had was good. Only had it once so far, in that bookstore in Chongno (Youngpoong?) Not so cheap though. |

Yeah, it's in the basement of Youngpoong Bookstore, next to Starbucks. Two overpriced places in one swing, I guess.
Given that this is Korea, I thought one could do a lot worse than Schlotsky's (I have, actually), but it is expensive. Only ate it once every couple months. It would seem that everyone else did the same and ultimately drove 'em out of business in Itaewon. |

It also may be due to the parent company in the US has just emerged from bankruptcy proceedings and they have a new owner who is closing a ton of stores in the US.
Sad because I really liked the place. It was good food |

As predicted, the Schlotzky's near Shinchon finally closed down.
