assistant: "the director is not very happy because you plan to go overseas for holiday"

me: "excuse me, I'm pretty sure I can do whatever I want for my holidays"

assistant: "but the director is worried that you won't come back"

me: "what?"

assistant: "because you know some foreign teachers...."

me: "excuse me, but I work very hard and do a very good job and i expect to be treated professionally"

assistant: "but many foreign teachers...."

me: "so...(now very angry) THE DIRECTOR TRUSTS ME TO TEACH CHILDREN BUT DOESN'T TRUST ME TO TRAVEL TO A FOREIGN COUNTRY! I'M DISGUSTED BY YOU AND THE DIRECTOR!"

assistant: "ok...please try to come back"

me: click.

hehehehehe....

they are in the process of trying to hire three new female Canadian teachers but the teachers want to talk to me first. However, they will only let me talk to the prospective teachers if I'm in the same room as the director and assistant. Hmm...I wonder why? How the hell do I handle this situation. I'm dealing with a director and assistant who try to screw me on every chance possible and I work my ass of catching them and calling them on it. Do they really think I'm going to recomment them?

Sounds familiar.

whenever I talked to a previous teacher, I always gaver them the old "Just tell me yes or no" deal becuase I knew the deal.

Since you seem to be at odds, I'd suggest simply telling the director you wont do it. You really have nothing to lose

just talk to them while your director is there, but let on that there is a lot to talk about, and you don't have time to get into it.
ask them to write you on MSN messenger or email and give them the goods in private.
or tell them to call you back when you are less 'busy'.

if you DON'T talk to them, you may inadvertently grease the cogs that drag them into your place when you leave.

I think that someone with half a brain could "read" into the situation....if I am interviewing for a position and the director, others and the FT are in the same room...common sense tells me...problems!

go take a look at EFL law. there's a sucker born every minute.
i'd rather give that sucker the slap in the face that he needs, rather than let a greasy hogwan owner profit from him

btw, how can you tell how many people are in a room you telephone into??

HAHAHAHA!!!! "I expect to be treated professionally" !?!?!?!?!

What a joke!! Stop dreaming, you're not a professional, so don't expect to be treated like a professional.

From the hagwon director's point of view. You're just a contract. Replacing contracts can be quite expensive.

So you'd think they'd show a little more tact and be nicer to the contracts they've got.

Not being treated professionally casts a poorer shadow on the employer than on the employee. Are you saying that hogwans are not run in a professional manner? I agree with you.

My farts make more sense than Korea.

Yeah, the schools can freak out a bit when you go on holidays and even worse when you have to go home for an emergency. When one of my relatives died, I had to go home pronto for a week for funeral, and the director said, "I must see a death certificate before you leave...just so I know you're telling the truth" Confused

Just tell your boss you'll be happy to talk to the teachers and do it. Say what you can with oblique or yes/no answers, and if you still don't feel you've done the job then say something like this

"You probably have a lot of questions about Korea and teaching in general, and I'd be more than happy to answer them for you. Here's my email address..."
