For some reason I can't link to most of the images on this site. Anyway, there are hundreds of photos if you scroll down that page including some interesting then and now shots of Seoul.

Your image links are a bit messed up, but I look at the site and it's fascinating to see how urbanized this country has become.

Last I heard on the subject, Itaewon used to look like this:

...being the town trash dump. But I could be wrong about that delightful bit of Seoul history.

I was living in Jinhae about that time ( 70-72). It was much different than it is today, as you can see from the pictures. Instead of millions of Kia's, most people just rode bikes.

There were also these little pickup truck affairs called Shin Jins- actually converted motorcycles with three wheels. I can see where the Bongo comes from.

Korea and the Koreans have come a LONG way from being a third world basket case to what it is now.

I lived in Yongsan 1971-73. I'm fascinated by how much it's changed...

You can see a handful of pictures I took then over at SeoulScene:

http://seoulscene.com/photos/index.htm

I'm still trying to identify some of those locations.

Also, this is interesting: here are two pictures of Hangang Ro, kind of near Samgakchi. One is in 1972 during the huge flood and the other was taken a few months ago by a friend, showing the same area. You can see one building which is really the only clue it's the same area.

Some of you might pass that intersection daily. It's right by the US Army base entrance known as Gate 19, and across from a big Korean Post Office building (if I recall correctly).
