My computer came with an internal 54 mps (802.11g) wireless card that should connected at 54 mps. However, it only connects at 11mps. Im using KT Nespot...

How can I get this to connect at 54mps?

I went into configuaration for the card and there are two options for wireless mode:

802.11 b only
802.11 b/g mix

shouldn't there be an option for 802.11g only? Is the problem with the card or with the router?

I found the problem. The Nespot software says is 802.11.b for 11 mps. I'll call tomorrow and see if they have 802.11.g ... Rolling Eyes

Perhaps, the source you are trying to connect to only supports 11mbps?

Most public hotspots for wirless service only offer 802.11b connections, because it has greater transmission distance than 802.11g.

Yeah..802.11b is the norm but 802.11g is the new faster wireless. I think Nespot offers it but they simply came here and installed 802.11b by default, not knowing the computer supports g...and I was in no position at the time to question it as I had no idea about this until now.

I guess the better question would be is anyone running 802.11g 54 mps wireless in Korea?

Isn't there something about how far you are from the access point that determines whether the signal strength will be anywhere near the advertised amount?

Damn. We called nespot, but for some odd reason there's only a line up to the 9th floor in this building for 54MP/s wireless and we're on the 13th floor. I guess 13 is unlucky after all. Sad The guy said it's not that much faster anyway...but he was probably trying to make me feel better. Still this is not slow...same as when it was connected with a wire.
