A very good idea, and one I used... gosh, more years ago that I care to count. They're particularly good at giving you a feel for the language in different settings & situations, dialogue with people of different ages and backgrounds. Really good for learning slang & dialect, too, in fact.
I don't read comics anymore, but they sure were fun. Some of the more 'adult' ones (still very tame back when I was buying them) were a real kick to read, especially if you're with a girlfriend in private. |

I'd suggest buying "Kwangsoo's Thoughts In English" and reverse engineering it since it's designed for English students.
Outside of the newspapers like Goodday, most of the manhwa you'll find are translated Japanese works. There's always those Greek mythology comics that were the rage a year ago with the kids. Since you already know the plots, it may make it easier to read.
And yeah, most Korean comics are definately adult material. |

I got one for W400 from some small comic book library but I just want to find a place to buy one of them...
Anyone know how good the quality of the translations are? I'm sure they vary but it general... is it worth my time even trying to read these translated from Japanese? Surely there's some decent Korean originals that aren't adult... |

I know that the censorship in Korea really messed up the story of the Korean Manga (manhwa) version of GTO. But really, Japanese manga are the best, and the Korean consumer acknowledges it by buying the comics of the hated ilbon nom, and not Korean comics. |

when i go to korea most the manga i buy are the japanese ones translated to korean.
the biggest translation annoyances i found were name changes.
for example with evangelion 'misatio' --> ''misa', gendou --> gou (or something like that).
they seem OK for the most part. probably better than what you'd get in the states in jpn > eng translation. |
