Has anyone lived in the district of Yeonsu-gu in Incheon? What is it like? It is apparently very difficult to find anything on a particular area in a city of 2.5 million...Thanks so much!

yep, me.
not a bad little place, small but has good links on the subway to bupyeong, and therefore onto the rest of the network. there's some decent mountains to walk up nearby, and you have a large park, recreational area, sports field and badminton courts near to E mart. There's also a Lotte Mart in Yeon Su too. Plus the usual assortment of Mcdonalds, Paris Baguette etc dotted on street corners in the 'hood. watch out for the clubs in the area, they are truly terrible and a full of drunk ajosshi's and horny ajumma's... but maybe you're into that sort of thing...?
there's a few hagwons in the area, and therefore a few westerners should you want to meet other people out here teaching like you. there are some dodgy hagwons there though, so post which one you have an offer from.
other stuff... you are close to the sea at wolmido which has an amusement park (of sorts) and a big boating lake. there's also songdo nearby too; another 'resort' in the making.
the area is supposedly being earmarked for major development as a new city is being built on reclaimed mudflats a few miles away. and they were bulding a new subway stop there too.
hope this helps,
pm if you need more. particularly about the hagwons, i'd hate to see someone go to some of the crappy schools in the area
good luck!

Muchas gracias for the info...I am going to be teaching at the Incheon SLP....I have already signed the contact and am heading out within the next two weeks so I have my fingers crossed that it's not one of the sketchy ones which you mentioned!

It's definitely the better part of Incheon.

I lived there during the employment period in my Korean adventure I like to call: The Days Of Getting It Up The Arse Without Lube

If you meet Mr. Justin Kim of Day By Day English hagwon, get my $3000 from him please. Then kick him in the nuts for me.

Overall, it's a nicely laid out area. It's everything trigger123 said it was. The air was relatively clean as well. I was in Yeonsu Dong and there was a great park near my apartment. It has everything you need, really.

Well, except for the super sexiness of Seoul.

Yeon Su is great. I lived in a few areas of Incheon- Yeon Su was the best. It has lots of parks, it's near the ocean (sort of) and songdo beach resort is near by.

The area itself is Hagwon city... there is a huge foreign population there, although everyone hibernates for the winter. Spring is amazing, roses and cherry blossoms.

I really enjoyed myself there.
