If so, or if not, why? And will that mean a change in the near future?

I'm about as happy as one could be in a hagwon position. Decent apartment, paid what they promised me and on time, my boss in fluent in English and a kind woman. It's taken a bit to make the kids understand what I'm trying to do but they've finally got in line.

☺ In the kiddy classes, I have a teaching assistant working under me.
☺ There is a school-wide reinforcement program.
That cuts down considerably on disciplinary problems!)
☺ I am free to design my own curriculum.
☺ I like the prestige of a university job.
☺ Our boss is a looney bird, but most of us seldom see him.

Now I hope everyone loses this post by the time my contract is up.

Yep. I run my own program with zero interference from above, I have a nice range of teaching situations, & I'm well-rewarded. Just a cog in the bureaucratic machine (EPIK) but so far so good. I like to think I give as good as I get though.

I offered to meet a class of elementary teachers this vacation (not required & no extra pay), started today for a week but I may extend it to two simply because theyre nice people & fun to chat with. I have to hang around anyway till I get february off, so its an easy gift to my school district. I dont doubt it will come back to me in other ways, but thats not my motivation.

I like what I do. Maybe that sums it.

It's alright, I've worked worse jobs. As long as the boss keeps paying, I'll keep showing up.

Yes. I have good hours. I'm reasonable well paid. I like the students and the Koreans I work with. I even like most of my fellow foriegners. Wink

I like it well enough to have signed on for a third year.

I would have to say that I really like my job. My boss pays me on time, treats me well and I enjoy teaching my children. Of course, as in every job, sometimes things get you down (bad kids and just general bad days) but I can honestly say that most of the time I not only like my job, but love my job. Very Happy

And as desultude just said, my situation has gotten me to re-sign with my school for a second year. And if things continue the way they have been then I wouldn't hesitate to sign for a third year too! But that's pretty far in the future at the moment so we'll just wait and see for that! Laughing

YES!

In many ways, I am my own boss.

I teach how I want to teach.
I use whatever textbook / materials I think will be best
I can pick up the phone and call Cambridge or Oxford, Longman, etc and have materials sent up to my office and don't have to pay!
My classroom has a computer, projector, internet, DVD, CD equipment
My own office, bookshelves, computer, desk
4 day work week - A long weekend every weekend!
    5 1/2 months paid vacation
    New Years Bonus
Faculty bus stops outside my apartment to take me to work

It just doesn't get any easier or better than this either in Asian EFL or back in North America!
