I always have wondered why people use the names they do on this site... Why don't you give us a little clue in as to why you've chosen the name you have...

It's just my internet pen-name. I'd never use my real name, as a matter of principle.

Used to use my real name- it was a big mistake. This is my third incarnation in 6 years.

Well my last name is smith... so getting id's based on my name on any web-site is impossible. I live in Korea, like kimchee and I never have a problem making id's now.

used my real name for a while on the old board a few years ago only to get pummeled. Now I use an alias that reflects my undergrad school.

Also decided to use an alias for privacy reasons. by creating aliases I can easily track spam origins etc where spammers have trolled for names etc.

Besides Cedar you know my real name Wink

My id is the name of a band. An incarnation of the incomparable J.G. Thirwell. I like his tunes. So my name reflects one of my interests.

Based on this name people tend to assume I'm male, which can be annoying but is more often advantageous.

And as for the rank, it's because it's not as lowly as a private but not as much responsibility as a sergeant.

I use it partly for pragmatic privacy reasons, and partly for a childlike delight in having a secret identity...

Mild-mannered english teacher by day, dishing out my own brand of digital vigilantinsm by night (because I have nothing better to do).....

i use rapier because i have a mint condition samurai hanging on my wall, representing all the witty and breath taking home truths I'd like my boss to properly understand in all his "alpha male" aloofness. Or alternatively just stab him with it.
Incidentally, I think its a bit cowardly the way some of you guys use 2 or 3 aliases on this chatboard. at least with me theres only one rapier. if i ever appear at one of your get togethers, I could probably expect a cold shoulder or punch on the nose from some of you for some of my *****y posts...

Kalgukshi is my real name. Thank you for asking.

My parents always pretended it was something else and tried to make me use their name. I saw right through their lies and deceptions and, as a young child, began using Kalgukshi because Kalgukshi truly defines the essence of my being.

To this day, my parents still try to get me to use their name. I defeat all their attempts by clevely addressing them as, "Mr. and Mrs. Kalgukshi." Most recently, they even came up with the explanation that "Kalgukshi" is but a kind of Korean dialect for a noodle dish called, "Kalguksu." I am not easily swayed, and so I rejected such a simplistic explanation.

Think about it? Kalguksu has nothing to do with what I am. Kalgukshi has everything to do with what I am. A ridiculous assertion on their part, but I have grown accustomed to this over the years.

Kalgukshi makes me strong, and so I am very proud to use it here.

Y'all have a nice day now. Time to take my medicine.

And good night, Mr. and Mrs. Kalgukshi, wherever you are.

I live in Korea, and I'm from Newfoundland. (For you non-Canadians, look at North America on the map, and look right. Far right. Bingo.)

The name reflects my place at this point in life, while hanging on to my home. Unfortunately, the survey questions don't have an option I felt was right for me... Rolling Eyes
