Oh sure, Katy, I know what it's like when you wish that vacation would never end. And I've been known to delay my return a week here, a week there. (I'm actually quite cheerful and chirpy when the travel agent calls me to say there's no empty seat for the return flight until "next week".)

Really? I always thought it was just you!
Reminds me of my French friend who once told a group of us beer-swilling Anglos that the president of his company (also a Frenchman) was spending two months outside of Korea that summer. We noted that was a bit extravagant, by which we meant the two-month holiday. Well, he misunderstood that we were puzzled why anyone would prefer to spend their vacation outside of Korea. (sorry for this long set-up)
Anyway, the Frenchman responds (though I can't recall the exact words), 'Well, we Continentals, we're a bit unusual, a bit unique, a bit different than you Brits, Yanks, Aussies, Canucks, etc. You see, we don't get along so famously with the Koreans like you all do. We, if I may whisper undiplomatically for a moment.... (((((we actually don't like them an awful lot, unlike the rest of you'.))))
As you might or might not imagine, this comment produced a sudden surge of beer through mouths and nostrils. |

2 hours in immigration line. You're not serious, are you? What's wrong with that airport/city/country? |
don't go to Israel my friend. That is an average time in immigration for a single traveler w/out a Jewish last name. But I admit, that isn't in line, but merely questioning, searching, etc. |

I was here for one week in 2003.....when I arrived in Toronto on my way home I didn't think they were going to let me back in!.. They asked ... How long did you stay in Korea?....(reasonable question).....Why did you go to Korea? Where do you work? Who paid for your ticket? How did you meet your boyfriend? I couldn't believe it....I thought is this the way they are with everyone coming into Canada? Then I got lost in the airport... I haven't been to many airports....just Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago O'Hare, Narrita, Osaka and Incheon. The easiest to get around in....Halifax of course....hahaha...if you've been there you'll know why... |

While I was only really happy once leaving Korea (it was after my 1st contract), I was ALWAYS in a pissy mood coming back. As soon as I saw all those koreans waiting to board the plane back to Korea, I converted into moan and bitch mode. It wasn't because of Korea but because of my crappy hogwon job that I'd have to return to the next day.
I usually hate leaving SFO or OAK as well because it means:
1) I'm off on a new adventure, so I'm nervous and wonder what's going to happen
2) I'm going back to work or school, end of vacation. No fun. |

They're almost there. But not yet. |
In all fairness Mithridates' link does lead to pretty good report on Incheon:

Only two hours? When I had to go there on business it took four hours to clear immigration. One year after my visit a parking ticket from Tel Aviv dropped on my mat as well not a fun trip overall.
My favourite airports are Amsterdam and Singapore Changi. My most hated are Bologna (all the food places and shops closed one hour before my regular friday night flight) and Gwangzhou (the most depressing airport in the world imho). |

4 hours? Now that's impressive. I dont think I've ever heard anyone taking more than 3-3/12. What kind of business are you in? |

I went with a youth exchange trip to Israel when I was a lad- they grilled us like I've never been grilled.
"Where have you been? Who have you spoken to? What did you talk about? Did you talk about this? That? Why are you taking this home? Where do you live in England?" blah blah blah. |

| I am in the chemical industry Bucheon so could explain the delay. I was just questioned a lot about some of the other stamps in my passport and why I was coming to Israel. |

I always thought english people were snobby until I went to France- they show you how it's really done. There's no slight coldness or ironic turn of phrase, just an open mocking of your accent/menu choice/clothes/existence.
Still a nice country though. |

Ah, so it would seem. Though in the instance cited above, this particular Frenchman presumed to speak not for the French alone, but for all the peoples of continental Europe, apropos their distinct lack of bonhomie toward our gracious hosts, the Koreans.
And in true froggy fashion, you don't merely insult the hosts, when you can also take a swipe at the uncivilised Anglos for being, in the frogified geopolitical world outlook, friends with and thus no better than the hosts. |
