If you're a man over 40 you can let rip a nasy, wet, vomit inducing fart on a packed bus and nobody will bat an eye or say a word.
I think that's just super |

Yes. I absolutely LOVE that concept. I was timid about it at first when I heard that you had to shower at your sink. But using your shower to pressure spray your bathroom is so Tim Taylor Tool Time perfect for a bachelor.
A man designed that system. |

2. DVD and Playstation Bangs - Maybe these haven't caught on due to legality issues? But I don't see why not. It's just like you're renting the vidoe or game and the place is providing a means to view/play it.

Shawner, I've got a theory about this. I'm from the West, where the average middle class family has a bungalow or a duplex which includes a nice dim basement rec room, or at least a spacious family room. In that culture, you can invite a pile of friends over, and sit around some distance away from the watchful gaze of Mom and Dad. They've probably got their own TV in another part of the house, and are arguing over whether to watch Ally McBeal or Psi Factor. In a Korean household, judging by the apartments I've seen, one has to barricade the bedroom door to get a little privacy, assuming one does not share a room with a sibling or parent or grandparent.
In Canada, at least in Winnipeg, the notion of a DVD/Playstation room is doomed from the start, because of the climate. When the temperature drops to -37 degrees Celcius (no, I'm not exaggerating), there are very few things that will lure the inhabitants out onto icy streets to face the bitter windchill and threat of frostbite. We occasionally emerge from hibernation for Food or Alcohol. The DVD/Playstation room has neither and thus ambitious geek-boys who open these joints around town soon find themselves in a world of hurt. |

Shawner, go back to bed. You don't think straight this early in the a.m.
PC bangs, whatever bangs in the West = instant druggie hangout. Parents of good kids would instruct them to steer clear.
Kermo's post brings up several other more profound cultural-difference issues, the main one being the "off-limits" sanctity of most Koreans' homes. Watch Korean dramas or "comedies" (like that Non-Stop crud, for example) and you rarely see the gangs of kids invading/terrorising each other's homes. No, they have to wait until they're college age and live in fictional uni-sex boarding houses for that.
Had a Korean girlfriend who lived on the other side of the city with her parents. Was always a bother having to make such an early start so she'd arrive home by witching hour. A few times we discussed her sleeping over, but of course this would entail lying to her parents. She wasn't averse to the lying, but she had no plausible lie to tell. I said, "Why not tell them you're staying over at your girlfriend's house?" (brilliant, ain't I?) "No, they'll never buy that. I've never done it before." "Huh? You've never stayed overnight with friends? Unbelievable!" "Well, it's true. In fact, I've only ever been inside my best friend's house twice in my life."
So the idea of a pile o'kids playing PC games in a Korean's basement or den (few Koreans have those) is a non-starter.
East is East and West is West. |
