... you're on the subway and some crazy guy is shouting in Korean about Jesus and then he sees whitey, and all whiteys are Christian, he starts trying to preach to you.
I had my face tucked down in a book and headphones on and the guy starts tapping away on my book to get my attention. I smiled, said hello, and when he continued, pointing to his Jesus Saves badges all over his hat, I gave him classic teacher "shhhhhh!" with my finger to my mouth, pointed at my book, and went back to reading. |

I can sense whenever someone is around me who wants to speak English. Does anybody else have this? I usually feel it before I notice the person. There's a sort of funny aura, like the feeling you get when you're about to jump off of a high place. They transmit that. |

Another of my favorite scenes in that in which two Koreans are talking to each other in Korean, but they throw in a few English words to attract the wegookin's attention. |

I have noticed that Koreans sometimes seem to nudge one another and remind each other to behave more "appropriately" when I'm near. Often they are just kids though. But it looks like they don't want to appear to be doing anything embarrassing in front of a foreigner. Another Korean, fine, do whatever. A foreigner---- they sometimes clean up their behavior a little. Very strange. |

yeah I've seen college girls out where one of them is totally ruined to the point of her mates dragging her down the street. They see me and tell her to stop messing around because there's a waegookin in the area.

On Sunday I visited the Kyobo bookstore in Gwanghamun. The wife and little girl were hungry, so I browsed while they got something to eat.
As I approah the magazine section, this girl grabs my arm and says, "excuse me, are you Christian?"
"Uh, yes I am," I said.
"Will you come to bible study on Sunday? We need teacher, practice English."
"I'm sorry, I live and attend church in Bundang."
"Do you have a Hotmail?"
"Actually, no." (lie)
"Can I have your handphone number?"
"I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable giving my phone number to strangers."
"Oh, OK. Here is my phone number and e-mail address. Please call and write, OK?
"Yeah, whatever."
Then she grabbed the next closest white person.

They think we're all Christians? In my experience they think we're all well educated, promiscuous holigans who can make ourselves presentable if we have to.
Anyways, the other day some guy in front of the supermarket hands me a sheet written all in Korean with a lolipop taped to it and just smiles and says 'Jesus'. I don't mind a guy who's willing to shiver all night in the cold because he's concerned about where I'll spend eternity and is willing to give candies to strangers as a good-will gesture. |

A guy came up to me in Kyobo and said
Guy "Do you believe in God?"
Me "Yes"
Guy "Would you like to join our group and study the Bible?"
Me "No"
Guy "OK, thanks!"
which I found refreshingly hassle-free. |

I went bowling last weekend, where I pulled a 148 then a 155(best day ever) and next to us were this three Korean guys.
All their game, they were going, okay, okay, okay, NICE,
So we started going, joha, joha, jalhaeso, jalheaso.
It was funny, and we were all laughing at each other so much that in our 3rd. game we all bowled together, and of course, I got a bloody 85. Korean wipped our butts but a fun experience. |

There was this weird school next to me with a picture of this Hasidic Jew teaching children. And I thought "wow, there are Korean Jews?" The whole school was all dolled up with a certain Eastern European Jewish feel. How you do remain kosher in Korea? I pointed this out to a Korean, who noted that it was not actually a school for Korean Jewish children. Some Koreans believe the Jewish educational system is the best in the world (why else would they graduate so many doctors, lawyers, and sit com writers?) and some school emulate the teaching methods. Huh. |

That's hilarious. You know how my Korean kids remind me of my friends who went to Hebrew school and can read it perfectly but don't have a clue what it means? Perfect system for Korea. |
