I've know locals to extend this theory to include belching and farting. Gum-smacking is positively quaint by comparison.
BTW, am I the only one who initially avoided this thread because I mistook it for another rant about Korean wife-beaters? |

I've found most Koreans I have eaten with to be fine and quiet eaters. Maybe just being with a foreigner curbed their usual noisemaking?
But I've also heard lots of noise when I wasn't actually one of the eaters at the table, just passing near. |
