I switched to Firefox two weeks ago. I love it.
It was created by a teenager too. Go figure. |

I use Firefox from time to time, and yes, it is better than IE.
That said, I was on the net and ran across this:
Quote: |
Firefox Vulnerability Could Be Exploited by Phishers
Speaking of phishing, Firefox users should be aware of a software flaw in Firefox 1.0 that allows hackers to spoof the URL in the download dialog box. This could be used to conceal the real source of files being downloaded to your computer. More and more people have been either switching to Firefox completely or using it in addition to Internet Explorer. While IE still holds a strong hold on the market (from 89 to 92 percent, according to recent statistics quoted on ZDNet), Firefox is gaining all the time. Many of its users fear that its increasingly popularity will also cause hackers - who focus mostly on creating attacks that target IE - to turn their attention to writing exploits for it. Read more about the vulnerability here |

I take it noone actually visited the link? It's total humor....not serious in any sense.
Anyways, on the serious side, yes, as Firefox grows, the deviants will focus on it more, and thus find the holes. |

yeah I visited... and found the humour but only by default... I didn't realise it was humour until I got to the end of the page and realised that there wasn't going to be anything serious... disappointed then... |

as per humour,
Quote: |
To fall victim to such a scam, a Firefox user would have to click on a link in an e-mail that pointed to a spoofed Web site and then download malicious software from the site, which would appear to be downloaded from a legitimate site.

... not entirely sure if I get the joke demophobe. I guess if you had gotten a naive user to follow an email link to a spoofed site, and then for them to download code onto their computer, that they are hardly going to spot a URL mismatch in the download box anyway .... or maybe I'm wrong |

Yes. First, one should click the link I provided if you want to read what I was linking to. Clicking another posters' link will take you to their intention. Your quote isn't from the article I was talking about.
As for the humor/no humor/oh dear I wish it was serious, it all seems kind of like a standalone joke.
Ugh. |

I am always one to try something new, and when I read a review on firefox and decided to try it.
It seemed a bit faster, but I like to keep my sys. clean of too many programmes. After w few days, I decided to uninstall it.
What the F*#@!!!
My whole drive lost almost everything that I had installed or had saved!
Because of that, I will not use firefox again. |

Well, I can tell you one thing, whatever happened was most likely not the result of Firefox. I've installed it and uninstalled it a few times as I too like to keep things fairly clean. Sounds like your issue was a tad more complicated than simply one program uninstall.
And for another thing, those who use FIrefox, don't use it for speed ... but each one to their own. |

I've heard reports of this happening. I've also heard reports of major memory leaks in Firefox.
As a web developer, Firefox is the worst thing to happen to me since "the browser wars" back about 10 years ago (I was in college then, so it wasn't as bad for me as it could have been). It may be a better product than IE, it may be worse, but I hope that one of them tanks, and tanks quickly because writing code to deal with several browsers sucks. I don't really care which. |
