Given I'd be taking my six year old daughter with me, I was wondering about coming out on a tourist visa first and, when I found what I like, sign a contract and ask them to pay for my flight cost over the year's contract.
Would anyone agree this to be a good/safe idea given the US Embassy warnings and horror stories I've read (even though I know many people create their own realities - good and bad!) Thanks for any input!

This is exactly what I did. I had the advantage, though, of having already lived in Korea for a year and I have a Korean husband. Regardless, I came to Korea on a tourist visa, found a hagwon I liked and signed the contract, negotiated a higher salary to cover my airfare and did a visa run to Japan to get my E2 visa.
If you have the money to support yourself and your daughter for the time it will take to start working (and remember that pay day is a month after that...) then go for it! |
