Korea

Korea is paradise compared to a lot of the countries out there. There is a lot to do here.. and everyone is economically sufficient to cover their own expenses and not leech on you (which often happens elsewhere in other countries)..

Having a lot to do I mean.. all the 'rooms' in regards to board game rooms, internet rooms, singing rooms, video rooms, pool halls, drinking holes, everything. I quite like all that stuff.

I had very good friends on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia-- but I didn't like the place myself. Glace Bay was a depressing, cold little clutch of old houses collapsing into abandoned mineshafts and surprisingly unfriendly and cliquey people. And then I get jumped outside Smooth Herman's nightclub at 3 AM for no reason. Give me the rock anytime.

I didn't care for Lombok Island, next to Bali, Indonesia. Sleazy people trying to sell me drugs, dirty food that made me sick, dishonest hotel clerks, quaint, restful PA speakers screeching Muslim prayers from the mosque next door at 3 AM. Great sunsets but two days was plenty.

My dad is a retired detetive at LAPD so basically his workplace. When I was a kid, I would sometimes go with him on a nightshift and he would interview the freakiest people he picked up inf ront of me. When he drove to work through the craziest parts of L.A in his regular car, I was freaked out when I was with him just because of the weirdos that we attracted. We even had one dude who walked up to our car, zipped down his pants, and took a leak on my dad's car, laughing. Then watching my dad get out of the car and "rough" him up a little was strange (this was back in the 80's when L.A cops got to do much more without worrying about lawsuits). Sometimes seeing him work was fun, other times downright scary! Shocked

Cote d'voire when it was poppin off (I snuck over the border). There's something about a 14 year old boy with teeth orange from cola nut (and incredibly strung out from it as well), asking you for pens and candy- well, unless he has a rifle and his friend standing next to him is carrying a machete. Add that to the the fact that people were sacrificing animals in the middle of the street so that they could have gris-gris (talismans) that made them impervious to bullet wounds. Ahhh, that was fun- coridite, the ULTIMATE aprodisiac..

Down town Phnom Penh after midnight- literally more rats on the streets than people.
Venice Beach, California.

I would also agree with Poipet, Cambodia....actually any bordertown in South East Asia is pretty unpleasant, especially if you're a female travelling alone.

I agree with Poipet. Also, One or two little places in the desert of australia sucked as well. Scariest place: jo'burg, S.Africa, and a few other citiy areas there- life is very cheap there.

Digging this thread out of the grave..but I have to third Poipet. Hands down it's been the worst place I have ever been. Poipet is not the kind of place you want to linger in any longer than the absolute minimum you have to.

Bukit Lawang, North Sumatera. The desperation. The lies and scams. I lived in Indonesia for 8 months and I was never so scared as when in Bukit Lawang.

Lombok though was great, as long as you are away from the mosque.
