Vitamins And Nutritional Supplements
Set to Become Prescription-Only "Drugs"
January 12, 2005
Guess WHO Sets The Standards ???
The FAO and WHO organizations are pursuing a drug style risk assessment on nutrients, just like those done for new pharmaceutical products.
While the officially stated goal is "to define a scientifically-based and internationally applicable approach for nutrient risk assessment the actual one is to set very restrictive standards for the use and consumptiom of nutritional supplements, to the effect that people will not be able anymore to buy or consume orthomolecular doses of any vitamin or mineral without a doctor's prescription.
How angry would you get if your country was going to shut off the opportunity for you to buy and consume these products?

Not very...the problem is people are shovelling so much crap in their bodies based on "junk science" that this would be a welcomed addition.
All of the bullshit advertising could be curbed...sounds like a plan...when will Canada sign up? |

There are many who would tend to disagree with the above post.
A lot of "junk science" can be directly attributed to faked scientific data
on reports of the large pharmaceutical giants.

Have a look. The list is loooooooooongggggggggggg.
This is just one article from the list:

How about Orange or cranberry juice ??? Vegetables & fruits ??? They're loaded with lots of nutrients & vitamins. Mushrooms are good for our health with all kinds of natural God given goodies.
Ought we lemmings blindly embrace prescription prohibition on all these & other "no-brainers" as well ???
Is anyone aware of how "legally" prescribed pharmaceuticals directly contibute to one of the modern world's largest avoidable causes of death ???
There is a war.
Fatal Medication Errors Peak at Start of the Month
Wed Jan 19, 1:45 PM ET Health - Reuters
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Deaths related to medication errors appear to rise sharply during the first few days of each month, suggesting that hectic pharmacies may be at least partly to blame, according to researchers.
Their study of U.S. death certificates for the years 1979 through 2000 found that deaths attributed to prescription-drug errors showed a 25 percent spike in the first week of each month compared with the last week of the month.

Guess the most reasonable approach would be banning doctors from prescribing any "drugs" in the first week of every month, eh ??? |

Survey Finds 80 Pct of U.S. Doctors Witness Mistakes
Wed Jan 26, 5:08 PM ET Health - Reuters
By Maggie Fox, Health and Science Correspondent
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Eighty percent of U.S. doctors and half of nurses surveyed said they had seen colleagues make mistakes, but only 10 percent ever spoke up, according to a study released on Wednesday.
These mistakes are undoubtedly contributing to the deaths of tens of thousands of people who die from medical errors in the United States each year, the researchers and experts on nursing said.

And these are the people who want to decide what is best for us?
No thanks. |

EU thwarts attempt to ban vitamins
Advocate General strikes down Codex directive on vitamin restrictions.
Dateline: Monday, April 18, 2005
by Helke Ferrie
On April 5, the Advocate General for the European Union ruled invalid the attempt by the European Parliament to limit the availability of vitamins and other essential nutrients. Justice Leendert A Geelhoed found the so-called EU Directive of 2002 to be in violation of the EU Constitution, as well as various trade laws and international trade treaties. His ruling found in favor of Britain's supplement industry, which had challenged the Directive in both the European Court and the International Court this January.
If upheld, the Directive would have caused all nutritional supplements to be withdrawn from the European market by August 1 of this year. Distribution could not have been resumed until the international body, Codex Alimentarius, to which all 25 EU member states belong, had established (in an unspecified time frame) their safety — through risk assessment procedures applicable only to synthetic drugs and poisons, but not to nutrients.
Justice Geelhoed slammed the arbitrary powers the Directive grants to Codex as being "about as transparent as a black box."
Also at issue was the abuse of science. Ignoring even the most basic medical knowledge about the role of vitamins and minerals, Article 6 (2) of the Directive forbids attributing to food supplements the properties of preventing, treating, or curing a human disease, or refer to such properties. Thus, nobody could state that vitamin C is the only known cure for scurvy, nor that iron and the B vitamins reverse anemia, vitamin D alleviates rickets, niacin cures pellagra, iodine cures goiters, and many more.
The Directive wipes two hundred years of nutritional science off the historical record.

Big Pharma Wins Giant Victory Over Your Supplements
From The Leaflady / [email protected]
7-4-5
ROME -- 'Big Pharma' won a major victory in Rome, Italy today.
Vitamins and minerals, for over-the-counter sale will be phased out, almost completely, in every country on Planet Earth. The 'German Model' of health care will now be the law of the land - in every land.
Below is a press release from Diane Miller JD of the National Health Freedom Coalition, detailing the action. Diane is in Rome at the meeting.
Press Release - National Health Freedom Coalition: Codex Full Commission adopts Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements in final form July 4, 2005, Rome Italy. By Diane Miller JD.
Minutes ago the full Commission of Codex Alimentarius adopted in final form, the Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements. This adoption is the Step 8 adoption, the final stage of adoption for the international Codex guidelines. The Codex Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements guidelines are now official and no longer in draft form.
The Commission, attended by over 85 of the 171 Codex countries, adopted the guidelines by consensus method. There was brief discussion before adoption taking in comments from a small number of countries and two NGOs. To read the whole article, click on the URL below:

That's very ludicrous. Kind of reminds you of Dylan's prophetic line~ Some day even your home garden's gonna be against the law! (Union Sundown)

There should be some kind of testing, as I have a friend who is a plant manager at one of the larger multi-vitamin company's in the States, and he would boast how the company would save massive amounts by putting pure filler into the product, as the actual vitamin extracts are very expensive (compared to corn starch), helping production meet profit quotas. |

House Moves to Strip Food Warning Labels
By LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - The House voted Wednesday to strip many warnings from food labels, potentially affecting alerts about arsenic in bottled water, lead in candy and allergy-causing sulfites, among others.
Pushed by food companies seeking uniform labels across state lines, the bill would prevent states from adding food warnings that go beyond federal law. States could petition the Food and Drug Administration to add extra warnings, under the bill.
Lawmakers approved the bill on a 283-139 vote. Supporters expect a Senate version of the bill to be introduced soon.
"This bill is going to overturn 200 state laws that protect our food supply," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif. "Why are we doing that? What's wrong with our system of federalism?"
