I have heard that the TOIEC tests starting in September will include an English speaking test . How that will be given though is anyones bet, but I think we might see a surge in numbers of Koreans actually trying to speak. |

I think it's the TOEFL, not the TOEIC. |

Yes TOEFL for sure...and they will do it exactly like you would imagine. On the computer you are given a situation and have something like 30 seconds to formulate a response and one minute to speak about it. (I don't know the actual time lengths)
Then the results are reviewed and the results are sent to you at a later date.
The catch is the questions they ask are quite difficult for a native speaker to put together a response in the timeframe. (I tried a couple myself)
So in effect what the test will involve is people finding out what scenarios they ask about and just like the rest of the the test prep...practice, practice, practice for every eventuality... |

Yes, it's TOEFL for now. Not TOEIC, but later, maybe.
I had to laugh at a big green "New TOEFL" book that is for sale in book stores here. It's made to look like it's printed in the states, all with a "fake" USA publisher/name, American-style print and design, and emphasis about how it's from the USA. Then you dig really deep and finally find that all 3 authors are Koreans. What a joke.
And guess what -- it's full of errors. For example, they have a big page inside that begins one of the "English Sample Tests." Only they misspelled "English" as "Engilsh," to name one funny mistake.
Soooooo Korean..... total bait-and-switch joke of a book. It's obvious they were thinking about making some quick bucks off of their desperate brothers. |

45 and 45, to be precise. Otherwise, yup.
When I checked out the example questions that they have on the TOEFL site, they gave a few different things to listen to (for example, a short lecture and a conversation), and then the students had to formulate an opinion about it (much like essay writing) and then speak about it.
I've been having students prepare short answers to questions at home and presenting their responses in class once a week over the past couple of months to help them feel more confident about speaking. |
