Well good news... I just bought a legit copy of English Win XP Home for 130,000 from IT computers in Yongsan. They also had English XP Pro for 200,000.
Their website is at

I reckon we'll see that price dip perhaps this time next year as Longhorn approaches.. |

I couldn't find the English version of XP listed on their site.

The only English version I found was for MS Windows 2000 Professional DSP, going for 210,000, and currently out of stock. I wonder if I they just haven't bothered to update their website, but I'd love to get a copy at that price, as I have a buddy getting ready to buy himself a system, and he's gonna need the English version of XP. Would love to help him save 70,000 won.

Man, buying it in Korea, I'd be worried they'd read the serial numbers off of the sticker in/on the box or something. You might get a serial number that's already been used multiple times. I think you get 30 uses max, but I'd sure hate to find out it didn't work when I tried to do a reinstall some time down the road.
Come to think of it, that makes me nervous back home, too... the label with my # was posted on the outside and readable in plain view through the shrinkwrap. |

They didn't stock it. They only had XP Pro in the shop. When I enquired, a quick phonecall had me a legit copy within a few minutes. They obviously know whose got it. Beats me hacking my way oppsoyo-ly around Yongsan for the day.
Go there and you will get a legit original disk, no matter what Derrek's fears are... |

Derrek, a man with such fears is surely capable of finding a product key on the Internet with very little hassle isn't he? I mean, if they are stealing the keys off the packaging, your key will be out there somewhere won't it... |

Just found another site that's offering it for:
110,000 won (http://www.highpc.co.kr/detail_view3.html?cate=34&stockno=9735) but you have to pay cash, no credit cards.
Another site (which accepts credit card orders) is offering it for:
122,700 won (http://www.ipcland.co.kr/product/productdetail.asp?pfid=M03A0014241&sortid=AB1&iscatalog=1&isshow=1)
Two things of note...
1. These are both DSP licenses. My understanding of DSP (Delivery Service Partner) is that this version can only be installed on one computer, ever. I.e. if you buy XP DSP, install it on your current computer and activate it, you won't be able to install it on any computer you buy in the future. If anyone has more info on this subject, I'd be interested in hearing it.
2. You can't buy XP or anything else over the internet from a Korean site with a foreign credit card. I helped a friend buy a computer today, and we had to use my Korean wife's credit card, because three different sites wouldn't accept his foreign VISA card. He's used it in stores all over Korea with no problems, but these sites wouldn't accept it. My wife called one of the sites and the guy explained that foreign cards used to make purchases offline are fine, but not online. Annoying! Normally, I'm a "Korean sympathizer/apologist', however, in this case, I'll join the "if Korea wants to join this global economy..." bandwagon.
BTW, the saint, I'm assuming the version you bought was also the DSP license. The cheapest non-DSP version I've found goes for 309,600 here:

You might well be right. As it was for someone who wanted it on one computer and wasn't likely to be attempting to install it elsewhere, this was not an issue.
Question though: if it is DSP, can it be REinstalled on that same computer e.g. if they want to wipe the OS and start out again? |

From my understanding, yes, you can re-install it on the same computer as many times as you like/need. That also begs the question, how much 'tweaking' and upgrading can you do? I'm assuming that somehow the version of XP is tied to a piece of hardware, perhaps the processor, upon activation. I'm not certain though, and would still welcome more info from any of the more savvy gurus on this board.
