| In case anyone is following this thread with interest, I stopped off at Yongsan tonight and ended up buying a 16x (regular external drives were only 4x or 8x) Liteon internal DVD-RW drive (70,000 won) and a sleek silver Nudian (50,000) external case for it (I had no idea you could do this until tonight). |
I don't understand the advantage in buying the cae unless you're either a) using a laptop, or b) haven't got a screwdriver.

well if you're using a laptop I get it, but if you were using a desktop there'd be no need to buy that Nudian thing unless you couldn't remove your PCs case.
Kind of wish I had a blackboard and some chalk.. |

Unless you want to switch between two computers, or your computer doesn't have enough slots left. With some of these mini-ATX models, it's a possibility.
I have a computer at work which is hooked up to a projector, yet doesn't play DVDs. They have some crazy DVD to computer video card combobulation that doesn't work very well. I'd rather just have a DVD to play. I'm not allowed to dig into the computer internals, so an external DVD would work in this case.
A lot of the DVD burners don't have very good speed performance on writing to CDs, or reading, for that matter. Personally, I'd just exchange it with the CD Burner in the slot.
I can understand an external HD for sure. |

| Yes...portability for something like a DVD player is a good thing, as it's still new tech to some places like schools and other people with Gramputers. |
