for me, ive always tried to maintain a healthy relaxed body.
I've been in Korea for about 2 years now and definately am noticing the "age" setting in.
I'm not sure if its the water, the sun (or lack there of), my diet (which is more than decent) or what, but i'mdefinately looking older.
I know it might be just age (just turned 30 yesturday) but i've never had so many wrinkles, skin problems (exzema) and hair loss.
grrrrrrrr |

when i 1st came to Korea, people were truly surprised when i told them my age. stateside, i was carded on my 36th birthday and asked "is it your first time?" when voting in the Bush vs. Gore election (my first time voting was actually in the Reagan vs. Mondale election).
now, neighborhood merchants call me "mi guk ajuma" and i'm actually getting used to it; wincing less every time and sometimes referring to myself this way.
in my case i think it's mostly due to the change in diet. although i eat well here in Korea and (when not pregnant) weigh less than ever, the only explanation for my aging skin is the lack of avocados and salmon in my diet. these two foods are rich in some good-for-your-skin nutrient(s) although i forgot what exactly. anyway, i went from eating them both at least 3x's a week to salmon 1 or 2x's a month and avocado, never. |

| Was looking in the mirror and not a pretty sight. Beer will make you gain weight. Late night drinking will leave you with bags under your eyes, and a general drawn out facial apperance. Yes, Korea has made me look a look older than I am. |
Weatherman...Korea didn't do anything to you...your life style did....
Drinking beer and late nights are not exclusive to Korea... |
I hear you, and I thought of that right after I posted it up. Yeah, it is the beer and not Korea, but then I could say I never drank so much beer or other drinks back in the States, and that Korean drinking culture is really making me look old. But 6 and 1/2, dozen the other. |

i went the other route, looking for avacado face masks, though with no luck.
i guess i'm to the point where i don't much care. aging beats the alternative, right?
however, if you hear of something let me (heck, let all of us) know. i promise to do the same. |

actually i have 2 points of view. in my first year i lived out of the way in byeongjeom near suwon.. i acn say ive never been so good and healthy. i put on weight, went to taekwondo 3 times a week and had really good regular eating
my second year has been in seoul and ive worked a split schedule. i think its the busyness, the split shift etc but i seem to have aged a lot. ive developed more wrinkles and dark lines under my eyes. not that my job is stressful although the schedule is but i think the busyness, maybe the pollution, . i dont know. has been a great year but i dont think id live central seoul again. actually was searching for some cool products |

Ody, you can get avocado in Korea - department store supermarkets sell them... albeit expensive. I had salmon last night in a garlic butter sauce with mushroom risotto... yummy.. (I made it!) |

How about Mackeral? There's plenty of it over here.
As for me, I was fat ungly and bald when I came here and I'm fat ugly and bald now. The baldness is hereditary, ugly, my wife tells me so. The fat.... I drink a few beer every night.
I still did 15k on my rollerblades yesterday though. |

I have a way different experience. Korea has made me healthy. The change in diet has been a HUGE reason. Going from the western meat eating diet, to a Korea vegetable and rice eating diet has been a huge reason why I have gone from weighing 95kgs and feeling and looking like a slob, to weighing 75kgs and being in the best shape of my life.
Back home I would eat a lot of fast food, a lot of meat, a lot of bread. I would eat vegetables but not at every meal. I did work out, about as much as I do here, so that isnt a factor. Here, I dont eat much meat. I have several kinds of vegetable dishes at every meal (several kinds of kimchee, bean sprouts, etc). I also eat a lot of tofu, fish, squid, and other seafood.
I went to Europe for 2 months and had to eat wetern food every day, and I saw my body quickly returning to its old state. |
I have to agree. I'm a vegetarian, so there's a lot of Korean food that I can't eat, but even so, I've lost a lot of weight since moving here. It's partly to do with a great gym membership as well. People back home who see pictures of me keep saying "You look amazing!" I wish they would stop, because it sounds like they're saying "Wow, you really looked shabby before you moved to Korea."
What aged me the quickest was a horrible marriage. After leaving him back in Canada, I'm looking a lot more peaceful and happy. Maybe that's another explanation for the positive reviews from back home.
I live in a little village, I have a fairly easy job, and I don't go into Seoul more than twice a month. I do, however, drink a HECK of a lot more since I got here. Must be some kind of trade-off going on. |

It's probably a good job you didn't go anyway because you are not supposed to go to saunas or sit in hot baths for a long time when you are pregnant.
I love going to jimjilbang but I stayed away as soon as I found out I was preggers - didn't want to raise my body temperature! |

Well it could be just natural aging but the kids estimate of my age has gone up 10 years since I first arrived a year ago, and when they saw my picture in a brochure from last year they couldn't believe it was me...
It's not from boozing either. |

Does anyone else seem to have this problem? When I first came to Korea, my face broke out like I was in high school, but I attributed that to the air pollution. It's gone away, but now I'm getting so many white hairs, and purple bags under my eyes...I don't go out drinking anymore, I get plenty of sleep and exercise, I don't think my job is too stressful, yet still....
And the funny thing is that I went to the Philippinesand Thailand and Bali for a vacation for 3 weeks, and while I was there, the bags under my eyes disappeared, and it actually seemed like I had less white hairs popping up here and there. Then, after coming back to Korea, two weeks later, everything was back...
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this because sometimes when I look in the mirror in the morning, my self-esteem gets a shot of insecurity..
thanks |
best advice stay on the tropical Island where you came from! hahahahah
nothing you do here in Korea will be better than chillin on a island sun, sand, surf dude..
goodluck man.. |
