I'm planning some parties for the end of Winter Camp tomorrow and I'm just wondering if anybody has any good ideas for activities and whatnot? My co-workers just want to run a video but I want to do something a little more fun and interactive for my students. My classes range from grade 2 to grade 5. thanks. |

I just hope you're not vegetarian... once all those little carnivores start ordering food. |

Well, it's Seollal coming up, you could use that as a theme? |

One thing I like to do is "classroom olympics". Basically turn all your classroom items, textbooks, brushes, chalk, etc. into sports equipment. A textbook and some balled up paper makes a nice baseball game. Give the kids a piece of chalk and see who can put the highest mark on a wall. Give points for, say, the girls team vs the boys team.

are you serious about the classroom olympics? I'm sorry, but I see myself not having a job after that. |

Mini English Olympics competion in Korea? Hey... they want to learn English, they are in a camp environment? I say deliver the goods and start a tradition!
Just make sure you have them do that swirl around till your dizzy thing with a bat!

I taught my kids how the celebrate Seollal in China, and had them all make "chinese" lanterns ( god bless construction paper!) Now I've got a classroom full of them, and the kids even asked for more paper so they could make some at home. |

The popsicle stick jewelry boxes I had my students do were a huge hit. Although it does take more than a day to do them.
One day to glue, one day to primer paint and one day to paint them well and decorate.
Duck duck goose was a hugely popular game, so was musical chairs and blob tag(outside game) |

Of course. You're talking about a party with activities. I'd assume you're allowed to let the kids move around and have a little fun. Having some physical games wouldn't be so horrible. Is your hagwon's director that much of a sour puss? I get the sense now your hagwon would make Glengarry Glen Ross seem like a feel good movie.
I frequently use this when teaching numbers and comparatives/superlatives. "Who could push the desk the furthest?" "Who could jump the highest?" etc. But my boss is nice and gives me a pretty free hand in what I do. Last night we just wrapped up principle photography on some shadow puppet shows... |

Hockey with one of those little rubber balls and wooden chopsticks, they love that. And then kneel-down no-hands volleyball with a balloon.
Take off your glasses before playing volleyball or you'll be needing a new pair. |
