Hi All,
I`ve just bought a new printer and would like to install it on my computer. I bought it in Korea and the driver disk is obviously in Korean. Now when I start to install it, the installation (wording) is all messed up and my Korean friend cannot read it, mainly because I am running Windows ME english edition.
I have downloaded the Korean IME for Office XP so I was hoping that the Korean writing would`ve come up on installation, BUT it is messed up (because my version is English and it`s not recognising the Korean). Now, where can I go to download a program that will help show Korean letters on the installation process.
Thank you in advance,
Dave |

You can.
http://webhard.daewoo.com/jsp/hangul.html
Perhaps you didn't actually enable the Korean language in the system, also meaning that you didn't set windows up to accept both English and Korean. Installing the IME is only part of the process.
I went to the control panel, under "regional and language options", go to "languages" , "details" and "add" another language and keyboard layout; basically, mirror the one you can see with English installed, but using Korean instead. The 2 languages and all sub-menus in the wondow there should look identical to each other.
EN
....Keyboard
..................US
Kor
.....Keyboard
....................Korean Imput System (IME)
After you have configured windows to actually use the Hangul you installed, you will see a language bar somewhere on the desktop or in the taskbar. Clicking this should now display your new language as well as English....your computer should also now recognize the Korean fonts.
Hope it helps.
y'know...Windows ME is awful. I will give you Win98 if you like. |

I can write in Korean (I get the bar that changes the writing) but the problem is when I install, funny kind`ve letters appear (which should be Korean) and this totally confuses everything. Your right though, Windows ME is awful.
Thanks |

Went to the LG website that was on the manual that came with the Combo, downloaded the drivers but it`s the same as what`s on the CD, it`s Windows ME which is crap.
Anyone want to send me Windows 98, 2000, I live in Busan. |

what about enabling non-unicode characters
Control Panel > regional and language settings > advanced
and set it to Korean
works for XP but I have no idea if that path is even right for ME, let alone if it will work |

If it's Korean characters you cannot see from text received from others, try right click, view, encoding, Korean |

I have a few programs that are Korean versions such as my usb driver for my wireless lan device, MP3 and a few other bits and pieces. I've found that randomly hitting the 'nonsense' buttons generally does the trick.
Experiment you wont break anything. Some programs work fine text wise when installing but others don't. I only have this problem with Korean products, other Japanese and Chinese products I've used seem to cause no problems whatsoever. |

It's the loader/installer program that is the gibberish, and even on my super-Kor-tweaked machine, I still encounter this from time to time.
"Experimenting" isn't really what you want to do, as things can go to the dogs before you know it. One thing to keep in mind is that most loaders highlight the most appropriate button that will be pressed...usually the "next" button. Save the message being one that the driver is incorrect or will cause system instability, just clicking the highlighted tab will probably do the trick. Again, if it is indeed the correct driver.... |
