Anybody see that new warning on AFN telling the military to watch their backs if they go off base for religious services. What do you make of that? |

Yeah, they're supposed to watch for falling vending machines or counterfeit items at 'Wongdong' market. |

I guess now the servicemen can't even go to church anymore. I think all foreigners should just leave Korea since that's what they want. I say we wash our hands of the whole country. Let them go back to being the "hermit kingdom." Next time they ask for help, just give them the diplomatic flipping of the bird.
Sorry to rant so early on a Monday morning, but I'm neither a morning nor a Monday person. |

It's a good thing that AFN is allowed to freely discuss any dangers/threats that may face the service people here in Korea.
Imagine if that kind of thing were censored and the GIs had no idea what might be waiting for them outside the gates of their base. Some of them might get kidnapped, or stabbed, or even murdered...
Nah...That kind of thing doesn't happen here. Sorry to lose my head and overreact. |

You must subscribe to the Korea Herald school of thought. |

Remember, AFKN is the channel that tells GI's to put on a warm coat on cold days.
The infomercials on AFKN are beyond ridicule....they're in a whole new area of stupidity that hasn't been charted yet. |

I was in the military, and on the first day of boot camp we were all told that G.I. stands for Government Issue; we were all property of the U.S. Government and that if we so much as got a sunburn we could be charged with attempted destruction of government property. I never heard of anyone getting charged with it, but an AFN commercial like that in the quote could be the army looking out for its "property". On the other hand, there is always some idiot who thinks he/she can go out on cold day without a coat. |

Are you thinking about hurting yourself?
Let's go bowling, then go and see the chaplain together. |

Then again...
I've been approached on numerous occasions by various Korean church members (read: "cult members") trying to recruit me to their so-called churches. I say they were cults because of the underhanded means by which they tried to lure me - soccer competitions, cultural exchanges, etc. But no mention of God except in the brochure they quickly handed me as I was walking away.
The worst was when two knockout beauties approached me in Bundang and tried to get me to attend their outing. Almost fell for that one.
So...all of this could be the US Army's way of keeping it's members from being lured into the latest Moonie group. |

This is exactly the truth, and is why you are seeing this advertisment.
My guess is that a couple of GIs got involved in that mess, and were trying to sell it to others on base like Amway. |

I would like to think that somebody agreed with me, but I don't know. It's the internet and it's itaewonguy so I don't know if he's being sarcastic or serious.
P.S. I'm a chick, not a dude. |

By god grandma, you're right! Seoul is the Falluja of east Asia! And there are Koreans around every corner here! Much like the Freemason threat in Hollywood, we need to get the word out about this ASAP!
Hold me tight, I'm scared. |
