Hey does anyone know a good place in Seoul to buy cheap, used records? (I'm in Incheon now, and there's no way it's gonna be here...) It was a hobby of mine back home to browse through old, goofy lp's going for a buck or two each. Korea doesn't seem to value keeping anything outdated for its nostalgic/kitsch appeal so i'm not too hopeful. Still, thought I'd check.
Thanks in advance. |

i have found one place in hongdae that sells vinyl. i didn't examine the vinyl closely, but much of it looks used.
that one street where people sell handmade clothes and stuff... i could not for the life of me tell you how to get there, but it's pretty central to hongdae.
they sell lots of vinyl but much of their stock is dedicated to weird early 70s prog/stoner rock. it's one of those things where i'm curious WHY THE HELL it's popular in korea.
but you may get lucky there and find some vinyl worth buying. i'll PM you if i can find exactly where it is. |

I don't think you can play records in Asia on North American record players.
Aren't records in Korea region three and North America is region one.
Maybe someone knows if you can get you turn table modded ... |

It's across the street from the main gates of Hongik U. Triangle park. |

try the Hwanghak-dong market, near Dongdaemun or the underground shopping center between Myeong-dong and Namdaemun, near Shinsaegae Dept. Store. |

I think Hwanghakdong Market at Dongdaemun is the name of the giant street/flea market, what animalbirdfish is talking about. I know that market really well.
Dongdaemun subway #6 exit. Keep walking the way you've just come up the stairs. Towards the brown building on the corner, and around the corner. By then, even at the subway exit, you're in the movement of the crowd (Sunday's busiest, mid afternoon. It's a fleamarket where goods are laid out on the sidwalk, and guys set stuff out, most of them have if they're going to, by that time) and over the pedestrian crosswalk, which itself has stalls alongside it over its span. Before you go down that pedestrian bridge, look down the sidewalk and it's a throng, a caterpillar of people walking the sidewalk, stalls alongside, into the distance.
This sounds funny but half way into the second block, where the 300 won coffee machine is, and window where smokes can be bought...not far after that, a few shops, is a shop lined with lps. Shelves to the ceiling, full, on edge like thin books. Millions!
I love that giant fleamarket. Bizz-czar things there. Stuffed tiger once. And so on. Just crazy stuff. |

hey, thanks everyone!
I'll have to see if cheap record players can be picked up, too. If not I can just buy some stuff for the interesting album covers... can't wait!
