I expect that once I get there I'm probably going to want to buy books that are most cnveniently available from Amazon. How expensive are shipping charges in that situation, eh? |

Thanks.
Since I posted this, I came across yesasia with free shipping for books at least. Good to hear about whatthebook, also.
Cheers,

amazon.com charges $6.99 per order for shipping plus an additional $4.99 for each book. It adds up, but sometimes it can be cheaper than Kyobo. if you look at some of the prices at Kyobo, sometimes they are more than $5 more expensive than amazon, so if you order a bunch of books, it can be cheaper. Not to mention the selection is much better. |

Interesting. Whatthebook carries my books (eg, the ones I wrote), but yesasia.com doesn't. I know who's getting my business when I get there. |

North American region DVDs. If a DVD isn't available in Korea (City of God, for example), I order the region 1 version from Amazon -- but the shipping costs are a b*tch.

Yesasia has cut their book database by 90% the first of this year. In fact, if you go on their website you will see that they only have 1159 books in the general fiction section, general biography 171, general history 238. For books, yesasia has basically gone out of business unless you are looking for ones on the NYT bestseller list. The days of Yesasia are basically over (the company is run by idiots anyways) and I would like to think that I have had a small part in making that happen.
On the other hand, our website has over 1.000.000 titles to choose from and in most cases we are cheaper than Amazon because of their shipping charges. We also provide people with many different ways to pay (you dont need a credit card) and we are always available to assist you either on the phone or you can use our chat function located on every page on our site (please just dont bug me, read the help page first . ).
DVDs, I am still mulling over bringing them here. It is a big step and I am trying to decide if I just want to concentrate on books or do like a whole internet mall. If I do sell DVDs, it would be the whole shabang. Just about every DVD currently being manufactured in the states. Don't know how many titles that is off hand. |

Sparkles, how did you eventually manage with the Region 1 disks? |

They haven't arrived yet. I'll have no problem with them, though, because they're not brand new (Rounders SE and Ran), but I'm worried about when I switch from my PS2 to a region-free player. Maybe I'll do like you suggested and buy a region 1 player.

I have a region 1 player from Canada but it doesn't play the Korean movies I rent. I recently bought a laptop which I thought had solved my problems but it only let me switch the region codes on the dvd player 3 times and than it was permanent. Not sure if a complete restore would give me 3 more times but that would be a huge pain to do if I had to do that after every 3 movies. I've seen some places on the internet though that have the region free DVD players for 119 US. Anyone know of a place to get them in Seoul or anywheres for a good price? |
