let's start a new thread that lists interesting subway stops. you know, the ones that aren't mentioned in the guide books (gangnam, sinchon, etc)
know any intersting stops that are otherwise obscure? let's make a list of the ones that have something noteworthy about them to explore on a bored sunday.
i find i've done most of the "touristy" things to do in seoul, and lately i just like to just hop on the immense subway system and pick a new stop to explore. problem is, some (like gunja.. which i checked out yesterday) have nothing cool about them. but some would surprise you: duncheon-dong on the purple line has a good alley with vendors, like a mini namdaemun at night. and sincheon on the south part of the green line is fairly happenin' at night, if you live in the area and want to have a bit of night life without crossing the han (or going to gangnam). any more? |

Nice idea for a thread...
This kind of ties in a bit with the "walking in Seoul" thread, but sometimes if I'm planning to meet someone near a specific subway stop and I've got a bit of time I'll get off a stop early and walk the rest of the way.
I used to work near Seokchon and took the subway along on the green line. Rather than transfering for just one stop on the pink line I'd sometimes walk down there instead - the road takes you across Seokchon lake and gives you a great view of Lotte World.
Which subway station has the railway museum right next to it? Is it Uiwang? I can't remember exactly, but it's a couple of stops before Suwon. Never been to it but it's definitely on the "to do" list. |

the guy who designed it was on acid. I mean it must be just about the largest empty space underground in the whole peninsula. And those perspex things on the bannisters on that immense staircase. What a total waste of time... |

I think they were doing a great deal of forward-planning when they built that subway station - there are going to be a fair amount of government offices built in the vicinity once the US military move out of Yongsan (I think.. something like that ) |

| I like the moving walk ways between stations. What's fun is you get on a moving walk way and as you walk, look at the wall to your right. You get this sensation like you're walking really, really, really fast. It's a bizarre feeling. |

| Has anyone seen the mass of butcher shops between Doksan Station and Guro Digital Complex? Not for the faint of heart, and my girlfriend hates the place, but I found it fascinatingly grotesque. Huge bags of brains and other assorted innards on the street corners, blood literally flowing in the gutters, etc. It's something else. Not the most pleasant day trip, but certainly a sight to behold. |

My favorite subway stop for sightseeing or general eye-shopping browsing is Jungmuro.
The area around Jungmuro is the shopping district for two of my favorite kind of stores: pet stores and motorcycle shops.
I've spent many a happy weekend afternoon browsing through the shops there playing with the animals and oogling the motorcycles.
Jungmuro is the place to go if you want to get a great deal on some pet supplies or motorcycle gear. |

| Incidentally, at Chungmuro (forget which exit - but it's right next to one of them...there is an awesome magazine store - full of foreign (ie. English language) magazines...all different lifestyle ones...let me see if I can find the exit now...okay it's exit 6 (look left at the exit and it's right there...). |
