| There are 2 things you can count on during big holidays here: ATM's running out of money and North Korea stirring up the pot. |

I heard the ones in Japan closed at 5. I think that might be an urban legend though.
The, um, orange bank stays open past 11 here. I can't remember it's name. The atm at the post office in Pohell stays open until about 1am. Small miracle. What I don't get are that no banks are open on Saturdays. Not even for a few hours. Back in the States, they're open for about 4 hours on Saturday for people that can't get to a bank during the week. I miss that little comfort an awful lot here.
Here's a thought. Do you think Lil' Kim is b*tching because North Korea lost to Japan? What a little girl. |

Yeah, this happened to me before. The cash machines run out of money during holidays. Too bad it caught you unprepared. I have sometimes complained that ATM machines are often only in the Korean language - not useful for foreign tourists. That is why I bank with Nongyup, because their ATMs have an English option. I know that it is Korea, but it would be helpful to have ALL cash machines with an English option. It is not difficult to set up. Bank machines back home give options in at least four languages. It does make transactions easier.
It used to be worse. I remember a time years ago when many ATM machines locked up at midnight. It made it difficult to withdraw money to extend a night out or to take a taxi home. |

Most KEB and Woori ATMs do also.

| I left that horrible Nonghyup BECAUSE I kept having problems with my ATM card. Most of the ATMs I've seen now have English. Some are even in Chinese. |

Nice rant!
But, why don't you post your complain on their homepage or e-mail them? I don't see any chance people in here could ever solve your problem. 鳯 ҿϴ. Of course if you just wanted to say "Hub of Asia my A$$", then I'm out. |

| The ONLY way Korea will ever be the blessed hub of Asia is if Japan sinks like Atlantis, China suddenly decides to join Russia, and Thailand spontaneously combusts. And then all the other countries in Asia turn down the job. |
And even then...they'll be on a two-year probationary period. |

OK advice time:
1) two bank accounts with differetn banks: KEB and Kookmin in my case
2) never let wallet get below 50
3) some bank machines are almost 24 hours in Seoul. They close at 11:55 and open at 00:01, i know becuase I broke rule two once and needed a taxi home at 3 am while too drunk to think. Note however, bank machine may have been closed and last fool left his money there

I always have nice little suprises with my bank...they decide that they need to "clean" their system and thus the ATM is closed for like a week...and this is not even during the holidays! I've even seen Koreans at the same bank who were just as clueless about the closure as I was when they tried to withdraw money.
It seem like Koreans sometimes should only be in charge of no-brain work--like cleaning windows....forget something too sophisticated, like actual customer care. |

| Good Lord. Why don't they think about the bloody customer? Why is that such a leap of brain matter for them sometimes? Is it all that fucking kimchi and soju messing with their heads??? |

| I tried to use my Nong Hyup card on Saturday-post holiday. It kept spitting out my card, saying something in korean about my card. I tried it at 3 machines. |

One of my friends has that little VISA symbol or NOVIS or whatever it is on his Korean bank card. The woman at the bank told him he could use the card in other countries. So he goes to Fiji and Japan for his vacation. He gets to Japan and has to make a quick stop at an ATM. Guess what. His card wouldn't work. He goes to a bank there. The woman at the bank checks his card out. Yes, it's should work. Yes, the visa symbol means you can use it in other countries. We do get this a lot with Korean bank cards.
To reiterate. Hub of Asia, my ass. |
