| So It's 7.00am, I go to bed and get up early because I have to write an article, head to the PC-bang, and there are at least 30 people in here and I'm the only one not playing video games. Have these people really been up all night long? What the hell do they do - all work in the night-time entertainment industry? Are they all lazy students? Do they all have rich parents who are happy to see their adult kids pursue careers in Warcraft or whatever the hell they're playing? Are other East Asian countries like this, or how on earth did computer games manage to become a country's biggest vice? |

I know what you mean. I have a friend who is too into online gaming. He hasn't worked in like two months, and doesn't plan to get a job until he "has to", all he does is play this fing game.
I talked to him once, he sounded like crap. He said he hadn't slept in like three days. He had been sitting in front of a video game. Bad, man, bad. I'm glad I just stick to beer and such. I could never handle a hard addiction like that.
On the plus side, I think he's like level 30 or some shit. |

The Korean's really love their PC games. I was actually playing Star Craft II last night in the PC room and was surprised to see I had burnt nearly 5 hours!
But some are totally hardcore, you can't help but feel that they're plugged into the computer somewhere. |

| Some of them might also be addicted to the thought of being a gaming celebrity later on if they do well enough. That's also a powerful pull. |

| you must be new here. give it a few months and you'll find yourself at the local pc bang at 4 in the morning, coming off a soju drunk, playing diablo, and eating a steaming bowl of shin ramyon like the best of them. polish it off with instant coffee and a long succession of "this" cigarettes. |

May be they are homeless people who beg money for a living and spend their nights in PCbangs to keep warm?
Else... may be they are gangsters with nothing much to do? |

Hey now, what about that American (or Canadian?) dork who was found dead in his room cuz he'd locked himself in playing Everquest a few years back?? I don't have any sources--think I saw it on some stupid talk show. |

From what I understand, though my information may be dated, most of these guys are unemployed, or work nighshift somewhere.
In a way, I think this is better. Back home they'd just be spending all of their money at a video poker machine. 1000won per hour at a PC bang at least allows them to buy noodles. |

Internet 'addiction' said to be on the rise
Various reports show a worryingly high level of Internet "addiction" in Korea. About 4.3 million Koreans are Web addicts, according to a survey conducted by the Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion.

| I just dont get these korean young guys. Dont they have ANY interest in proper pursuits like women and sex or are they so socially inept that they have given up on the pursuit of poon? The army is a great thing for them, it actually makes men out of these boys. |

Women and sex in Korea cost a lot of money, DW. If these a guys are unemployed, how are they going to pay? |

Take this as wise warning; don't touch the bad acid man, stay off those games.

"What Korean Women Want?"
From: Hee-jin, 26
I have dated older men, younger men, Korean men, and foreign men. In fact, my last two boyfriends were foreigners. Its funny, I broke up with my last boyfriend, who was an English teacher from Canada so that I could go out with this French guy in my office.
My Canadian boyfriend was really upset, but I don't care that much. It's not that he was a bad guy; it was just that he didn't understand that in Korea, there are some things a boyfriend must do for his girlfriend.
One of these is paying "pocket money." Every one of my ex-boyfriends, except him, always paid me "pocket money." It wasn't that much, maybe only 200,000 won per week but it showed that they loved and really cared for me. My new French boyfriend is great; he pays for everything and gives me "pocket money." I think that French guys really understand what women want!"
