Well, I have almost reached this point...does time really fly after 6 months or what?
I have been told that it should, but any other opinions would be appreciated. |

| In my first contract, after the 6 month mark I relaxed a lot more and considered that the rest was all downhill. I enjoyed life and my work a lot more and found that I didn't want time to go faster, but it did. So I came back. |

I would say the first few months dragged, then it picked up....and now that I am back from vacation...it seems to be dragging, and I am saying I hate the place a lot......I wish I was back in the hot weather of SE Asia again.
But only 6 more months to go! Woo hoo! |

I found months 7-11 felt the shortest, I'm into my last month and it seems to be going slowly again. Hmmm 13 more days............ then south of France for a bit of R&R |

| Congratulations. Did you know that, after six months, you can't be dismissed without one month's notice or, in lieu of that, one month's pay? Your boss must really like you! |

It feels like last week I was writing "Man, I'm at the six month mark."
Now I'm finishing my 13th month and my contract in less than two weeks. |

| I have always found that the first 3 months fly by, learning a new area, finding out where stuff is. Then the 3-9 months drag a bit(especially in winter) the last 3 months seem to fly by. |

I usually feel a major slump at the six month mark. I always wonder how I can survive another six months at a hagwon. Then a funny thing happens. I become very relaxed and laid back in the classroom. The children start trying to talk with me directly rather than use the book. By the six month mark I am involved in a relationship. That occupies my mind for the time being. Time flies quickly until the tenth month mark, when I start to visualize leaving. Things get boring for the next month or two. When I leave I even get sentimental and reconsider staying.
... I doesn't work, however, because there are so many new destination that I want to experience. |

| The first 6 month mark is make or break for most newbs, I reckon about 20% quit at this point. If you get past it, its all much easier, and all subsequent 6 month blocks fly by. |

Six months? At that point I felt like anything I didn't have, but wanted, it was too late to buy. If I could go the first six months without it, then I could go the last six without it too. (Of course, that changed when I got a girlfriend who didn't like sleeping in front of a window without curtains)
Then a couple weeks ago I passed the 36 month mark...and to celebrate I signed on for a fourth year (Yes, I'm still at the same school).
Starting to feel like I'm here for good. |

This is good to know.
Based on the first 6 months, I didn't know if I could do another year...but if this initial experience is par for the course, and it hasn't been that bad...I might just be able to do a 2nd year.
Thanks for your thoughts. |
