I just got a great job offer but will need to leave my current (super shady) hagwan in the next three weeks. Eek! The new job is not teaching, but I still don't think that my director is going to give me a Letter of Release. For what it's worth, the new job offers an E-7 visa - don't know if that makes a difference. What can I do? My current employer does not:
pay any pension
pay into health insurance, nor offer it to employees
provide any sort of assistance with teaching in general, i.e no books, etc.
But what can one do in this situation? He's not a nice man and I expect the worst. My options are to:
a. give him three weeks notice and expect to never see my money again.
b. leave after my next pay cheque
c. tell him that I have a sick relative (ew, gross lie)
All of these options seem really ridiculous and unlike anything I would pull in Canada....but???
Any advice would be welcome. |

Do what has worked for me in the past in getting out of a contract quick.
Bribe him.
You'll be amazed how fast he'll pony up that letter of release if you offer to forgoe some of your last month's salary.
Sure it sucks to lose out on that money, but its worth it that save on headaches and worrying. |

better yet blackmail him
Tell him if he doesnt give you a letter of release you will report him to the pension board, immigration(for no health care) and blackball his crappy hogwan. You could also report him to the ministry of education which is(I believe) where they get their license to operate.
Bribe him I'd rather you hit him between the eyes with a shovel. |

hey it was my idea! If anyone gets to smack him with a shovel it should be me!
Now there is a sideline business to open up. Go out round up some recruiters, make them promises of good pay, short hours, good working conditions and then when they get to work WHAM! |
