Hey Hollywoodaction, thanks for the input, but I think you misinterpreted an attempt at humor for being upset. I do find ordering "2" pizzas in Shinsa Dong frustrating sometimes, but I would never get that worked up about it as to yell on the phone at someone as I insinuated in my previous post (unless the really really earned it).

Anyway, I have no problem ordering Chinese food using my "broken" Korean from 3 different local shops. The pizza place (Mani Mani Pizza) always manages to understand my order and directions to my apartment. They also remember me when I call (my friend and I order from there every 2 weeks or so). It just amazes me that they can't seem to understand that I might want to order two pizzas. The words Du Gae, Ee, Tu Gae, etc. might give some clue, but the guy on the phone is not listening for it. Maybe I am wrong but if a customer is repeating "pi ja, du gae," and the guy from the shop only understands "du pan" as 2 pi ja, then is it such a far stretch to put 2 and 2 together??? It happens, no big deal.

Maybe the Koreans in your neighborhood are hip to the simplified foreign code of pizza acquisition, but unfortunately that's not the case in the isolated island of Korea that is Gangnam. By the way, this pizza guy and his buddy who works there have both filled out my orders with no problem. The confusing part is trying to order 2 of the same type of pizza. Ah, the fun never ends.

I plan to try the "Du Pan" approach this evening to see if there will be instant clarity and jubilation among the masses, or if I am in for another round of

Du Pan! DU PAN!!! DOOOOOO PANNNNNNNNN!!!!!! okay okay DU GAE!!! TU GAE!!! DU PAN!!! Ee!!! DOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! DOOOOOO GAEEEEEEEE!!!!! DOOOOOOOO PANNNNNNNNNNNN!!! Oh forget it, I'll cook some pizza flavored ramyeon.

I guess the equivalent for us is if someone calls a pizza place at home and says they want "Pepperoni pizza. Two piece."

Pojang means covered or wrapped. It comes from jang, which means sheet (of paper, cloth or whatever.) Works like a charm in restaurants and stores, too. By the way, pojang macha (soju tent) means a

or covered wagon which is where old school Koreans used to get down with the sojjjjjjjjjjjjjjj. It now means soju tent. So pojang your gochu before you hit the soju. I have brought PICTURES of pepporoni pizzas got them promised to give me ONLY pepporonis and STILL get the supremes.

If you go to Dominos or Pizza Hut, you should be fine though. The small Korean-managed and owned chains just don't get it though.
