I am posting on behalf of the organizers.

The J-Rock Bar in Daejeon will be hosting a Tsunami Relief Party on Saturday February 26th. The party starts at 8:00pm, with the team trivia contest kicking off at about 9:00pm.

You may make a 10,000 Won voluntary donation/cover at the door. The donation will cover your food for the evening. The donation will go to the Daejeon branch of the Red Cross for tsunami relief. The trivia contest will have a 5,000 Won per person (20,000 Won per team) entry fee. Again, the money is for charity. We encourage those interested in the trivia contest to arrive early so as to have their teams picked by 9:00pm or so. In addition to the trivia, there will also be a foosball tourney and a pool tournament. There will be prizes for the winners.

J-Rock
204-3 Daeheung-dong (Downtown, near the train station)
042-252-9881

The event is sponsored by:
J-Rock
Expat Korea (a Yahoo group...not the OTHER one)
FLEA (Foreign Language Educators Association)

Kudos.

I hope they get boatloads of people that night, washing away their thirst with lots of beer. Wink

Idea - sell Singha at 10,000/bottle and give half of it to some Thai tsunami charity fund. Screw the Sri Lankans, etc. Lost cause.

I'm in Daejeon and wouldn't mind attending, although I'm not that interested in any of the competitions. I'm sure I can assume this event is open to Koreans, but realistically, will my husband be the only Korean there if we go together? Also, where is J-Rock? (we're new in town)

CM,

I'll try to post a map in a couple of days (I am going out of town). J-Rock is in the shopping area downtown (Daeheung-dong), near Daejeon Station. Thier number is: 042-252-9881. Their site is www.jrockbar.com

Of course your husband is welcome. I don't really hang you there myself so I can't speak to the make-up of the clientelle, but I am sure he won't be the only Korean. You do not have to compete in anything, you can just come out. Donations to the relief fund are voluntary.

Hope this helps.

I hope we can see you there, Tommy -- but not sure now as an old friend might be coming to visit and since she's on the verge of ordaining as a Buddhist nun, I'm not sure how keen she'll be on J-Rock.... Wink

Tell her about the trivia contest, and that you need an eastern phil. ringer on your team. Hell, maybe she'll be keen on one last night out--after all, Buddha said to the Sakyans at Sakkara: the company of lovely friends is the whole of holy life.

Thank you for the sticky CLG.

The party raised 1.3 million won for the ICRC tsunami relief effort.

This is the nicest thread I've ever seen on here. Good work and glad it was a success. By the way, what did the winner win?
