strange bad African dictators in the 80s were NEVER threatened with "nookies" (to the best of my knowledge).
If he ISN'T as bad as hussein...why is there ANY concern.
and they CERTAINLY aren't a threat to the "west". They have a missile (and have tested a missile) capable of going over japan (you may recall hearing about that?). They aren't going to put a nuclear payload on a non tested missile and hope they hit the us....no one...and i mean NO ONE on the planet is that dumb. |

Cho Se hyun in the Korean Herald said the the cheerleaders were the children of the priviledged class, and of course aren't truly representative of the general North Korean population. It might also be said that the North Koreans are masters of brainwashing, and that the young are subsequently indoctrinated from childhood. During the Korean war every form of brainwashing was used on the allied pows. More so than in any other war. Pavlov's dog and the results were exploited to the full.
The people are still subjected to a form of heavy indoctrination. At the universites half the studies are about the writings of their dear leader. They study his works the same way as the arabs study the Koran. The latter is basically a mind numbing experience, and I think the expereiencre of the North Korean students isn't much different. |

The cheerleaders and brass band members flew to Pyeongyang in the afternoon with mounds of gifts that included clothes, watches and sunglasses.
The North Korean athletes departed earlier in the day.
"We are returning home with the political gold medals around our necks by defending the banner of the two Koreas� cooperation amid the complications," Jang Jong-nam, leader of the North Korean athletes, said in a departure statement. "Conservatives attempted to drive us out from Daegu by engaging in dirty tricks and plots, but we exercised our patience to wrap up the games fruitfully."

I don't suppose that Kim Jong Ill's economic policies have led to the death of millions have they? And bombing Pyongyang would only cost us the party elite for nobody else is allowed to reside there. Why not sacrifice those who support such vile economic policies? What Matko said makes a lot of sense to me. |

Kim does get a lot of poon. He's got his "Pleasure Squad", or whatever it's called. I forgot the Korean word for it. He's especially fond of virgins.
Also, I don't think the brainwashing that happens in North Korea is that different than the brainwashing that happens in the U.S.A. |

Oh please. If Korea reunifies, Lil Kim will have all the military, police, and politicians killed. Pyongyang will be the capital, and all the foreigners will be relocated to concentration camps in the extreme north.

I wouldn't be too sure. Despite the squalid lives of most impoverished northerners, i'd say that there's a significant minority supported by Kim Jong Il's regime that are fiercely loyal and believe in him. Brainwashed, perhaps..but we in the west are brainwashed into believing unrealistic things about the North.
After growing up in the cold war era, I believed that Russians actually slapped eachother for smiling. Same as Sting I wondered if "The russians love their children. First Russians I finally met years later I was amazed at how human, how similar to me they actually were.
Same with East Germans. I had a couple of good east german friends once, from Berlin no less.,,they told me all about the days of the collapse of the wall and how they thought it was hilarious that the west germans all expected them to be poker faced peasants..
How do you know our western perceptions, fuelled by long exposure to agenda-driven western media, are correct? |
