Hi,
I amon my way home after several years on the ROK. I was wondering if anyone knows how much an overseas moving company charges. Has anyone used these shippers?

The shippers just took our stuff yesterday. They come to your place and box everything for you. Our stuff took up about 4.5 cubic meters and we paid 1.5 million won. Going to the US it will take about 5 weeks for it to arrive at our door.

If I can bother you again... do they charge by weight, or space (like space in a shipping container)?

Only by space. The basic charge is 1.2 million for 3 cubic meters (to West Coast USA), that's the minimum.

We used Chosun Shipping. I have no complaint with them but we haven't been on the receiving end of the service yet so this is not a recommendation.

Depending on the size and weight of what you are shipping, consider the post office. Shipping by surface is reasonable.

I am weighing the two options. Only thing is, I have several hundred books, costing an average of $20 each. I sent most of them here via surface mail (the ones I didn't buy since coming). I lost one box in transit -- never recovered. I figure the contents were worth as much as $1,000 (some expensive ones in there). Not to mention that I had already read and highlighted those. So I lost all the work, too. I am EXTREMELY leary of sending so much through the post office. And you also have to figure in the fifty or so trips you have to make to the post office. Anyhow... I am leaning toward a shipper for the "big move." I DO appreciate the input, though! ;>

Forget the post office, your books may come back in pieces. Just ship them over via a freight forwarding company. I used one back in 2003 and it went very smoothly, none of my stuff was damaged.

Shop around for rates, though.
