hey all,

i know there's a few christians who post here quite frequently.

a soldier acquaintance who is a devout christian and fairly new to korea sent me this email:

I was wondering if you've seen or heard of any beautiful, tranquil, christian churches or monastaries out here. I'm looking for a real quiet
> meditative church. I can of course find that camping out in the middle of the woods, but I'm looking for someplace where there would be other folks to talk to if I feel like it, and where I can take a friend (who doesn't
> like camping) and if it's far I could stay in the area for a couple days if
> need be.

of course, i'm about as christian as a mollusk, but this guy seems cool so i said i'd help.

any christian tourists out there who know things?

Yup yup. There is one in Gangwon-do. It's a retreat but I can't remember the name. I do, however, know the person who runs it. If you want, I can email that person and ask for information etc.

Also, just a little North of Seoul, there is a Monestry for the Fransisken (sp.) brothers. I, again, know a brother who resides there. I can ask for info for you there as well.

Just PM me and let me know what you are looking for.

Cheers.

Yeoido Church (the largest in the world) has a place called Prayer Mountain. I think this might be what your friend is looking for. There's a free shuttle bus every day from the church in Yeoido. It's about an hour out of Seoul. Check out this website -

Look under 'Prayer Mountain'.
