I'm glad I got there early. At 10am, COEX was just opening, but I was number 35 in a line that grew to well over 200 by noon. The Apple store started handing out the Shuffles around then -- they didn't arrive until 11:45! In typical Korean fashion, there were even a couple shouting matches when people tried to jump the line. I wish I had taken my camera. I noticed 2 different cameramen taking footage, perhaps for the news or something.
I was one of only 2 or 3 foreigners that I saw. Most of the Koreans I talked to were Windows users, but were attracted to the Shuffle because of its distinctive design and price. Many were young, younger than me (I'm 25) and said they couldn't afford an iPod until now.
Apple is making inroads in the ROK with this new low-priced MP3 player. I expect the Macintosh platform will grow in popularity here, especially after the equally well-designed and cheap Mac Mini is released.

have you seen the price of the mini mac for korea? Its not cheap. ITs at least a hundred bucks more expensive than it is in the States. It doesn't even have the latest Mac processor. I don't think it will do that well here. I was curious about it but the price put me off. Doesn't even have all that much ram.
I'm surprised there is that much interest in the shuffle over here. |

I'd say that USD75 more isn't a big deal. At least USD40 of that is due to Korea's high import tariffs, which Apple has no control over unless it moves its operations to Seoul.
Mac Mini in America: USD530 (USD500 plus typical 6% state sales tax)
Mac Mini in Korea: USD605 (including VAT)
Mac Mini in Singapore: USD565 (to illuminate Korea's high import tariffs)

True, but neither do the newest Powerbook releases. The fastest 12" Powerbook is only 0.25 GHz faster than the Mini. And the Powerbook is Apple's "power user" notebook. There's a reason for that, too: at the moment, it's physically impossible to put a G5 in such a small case. However, it'll be a much different situation within a year.
Besides, the Mini is only intended to be an entry-level computer -- one that entices Windows users to switch. Buying new monitors and input devices isn't necessary; they all work with the Mini. I think that many Koreans are going to give it a shot, especially given yesterday's turnout for the iPod Shuffle.

This is my only complaint about the Mini. Still, an upgrade to 512MB is only USD75 more. That's plenty unless you're editing huge images or making movies.

I'm not. I think Apple's designs have a lot of allure in Korea and other Asian countries, but their stuff has been too expensive until now. |

Nothuing will happen to the others. They aren't in the same league as the shuffle. The others have too many cool options to be shelved alongside the facist shuffle. 
The best thing that Mac has done in the last 5 years is marketing mediocre products, iPod aside. |
