i had this problem a while ago, and got some advice. but none of it seemed to help. truth is, i have no clue what's wrong with my computer, except that it arbitrarily shuts itself off from time to time.

twice i've had the guy i bought it from come to look at it, and naturally it worked perfectly for him. so i formatted the hard drive, and that did nothing at all to help. and then for a while it worked fine. now, sadly, it's not working fine anymore.

no one i've talked to has ever heard of this problem, and the only advice that i've gotten that i haven't gotten around to trying is replacing the battery.

has anyone else had this problem? do i just have a bum computer? help!

My first guess....power problem. A computer that is one the edge or has a weak power supply will randomly reboot occasionally. It happened to me so I went and bought a second one for 20,000 that now sits beside my case on the outside, with a lead running in the back through one of the slots. This feeds my hard drives, takes the load off my other cheap PSU and solved the problem.

How hot is your video card, or other hardware getting?

Is the problem happening when you run a video using Media Player? The new Version 10 was doing that to me, and I figured out it was working my card harder, and overheating it. I've got an extra fan in there now, and it's fine.

you could both be right. before the problem seemed entirely arbitrary. but now i'm only having a problem when i try to play warcraft. i'm probably going to go for both a second power supply and a second fan. i don't know anything about this though. where would i get an additional power supply? what does that even look like? and as far as a second fan goes, where am i supposed to put it? i don't see any extra room on the back of my computer for a second fan.

My situation was due to not having enough airflow in my case, and that fact that one of my fans had died on my graphics card. Am looking for a replacement fan soon (will have to take the TI4200 with me), but for now, I set up a slot fan right next to it that sucks in air all around one side. That seems to have taken care of the issue until I get it fixed.

Power supplies can be bought at any computer shop. You need either a more powerful one or a second one that will run outside the case, in which case you will have to ground it.

A more powerful fan is what you need then, if there is no room. Look for the power rating on the fan itself...higher is more powerful. .25a is fast....13 is slow. Perhaps you can move to a bigger fan? A 90mm?
