Lost Mobile Phones Cost Users W1.37 Trillion
Mobile phone subscribers lost some 4.58 million phones last year.
According to a report submitted by the Information and Communications Ministry to the parliamentary science, technology, information and telecommunication committee on Sunday, 12.5 percent of 36.59 million mobile subscribers either lost their phones or had them stolen. The figure increased by 27.8 percent from 3.58 million the previous year. GNP lawmaker Kim Hee-jung said the damages amounted to W1.37 trillion assuming the price of a handset was W300,000 (US$292).
Meanwhile, only 66,347 cell phones were returned to owners through the Korea Association of Information and Telecommunication. Kim said illegal use of lost mobile phones could cause a serious social problem and urged the government to come up with proper measures.

yeah...
a korean friend of mine from my language exchange lost her phone on the weekend. She called the number and the guy who answered said he would meet her later that day and then give it back. She called back later and her number no longer worked.....apparently there's a huge black market for korean made cell phones in China so..... |

yeah, actually, I lost my replacement phone too -- left it in a taxi (DOH!) and the taxi driver answered it and drove back to give it to me. I just remembered that when I read waggo's post and thought it was only fair to report a positive story too.
Unfortunately, it doesn't say much good about me.... losing my phone twice in one year. |

Dude, that's nothing. My friend has lost 5 phones in the last year! And it's really annoying because it always takes him forever to get a new one.
On the other hand, I have a friend who's been here almost 4 years and has had the same phone the entire time! I can't believe it still works. |
