just before i went home for christmas, my little canon ixy was stolen in a bar. that made me very sad. it was a good little camera, and never gave me any problems.
but when i went back to the states, i had promised my gf that i'd take some pictures of the home and family and whatnot, so i went out and bought another camera pretty quickly. i paid a hefty sum for the olympus camedia c-60 zoom.
i should really have my head examined. it was so much bigger and bulkier than my sleek little canon, but i was seduced by its 6.1 megapixels... as if i could tell the difference.
anyway, this camera has a design flaw outside of its girth. to turn the camera on and off, you must slide open the door to reveal the lens, which then extends forward. it all looked pretty neat when i first got it.
but the big problem is that there is no latch or locking mechanism on the door. so when i'm walking around with the camera in my coat pocket, the door often comes open by itself and turns the camera on. after this happens enough times... under three months, it can totally *beep* up the camera. the lens stopped retreating back into the camera when i went to close the door, so i had to force it once.... snap... uh-oh... that seemed to work, because now the mechanical part of the opening and closing process work fine, but now any picture i take during the day looks like this:

ah hell...i can't figure out how to put a picture on here right now, but the big white space i left is pretty accurate. if i take a picture during the day, it's more or less white with some barely recognisable shapes here and there. if i take a picture at night, it looks like it was taken during the day, except everything is kind of blurry. problem is there's way too much light getting in.
i thought maybe i had some setting adjusted wrong, so during my three week visit to fukuoka, ironically one of the most picturesque places i've ever been to, i took it around to a bunch of shops that sold the same model camera and asked them what the problem was. the diagnosis was unanymous... it's broken.

well i can't be bothered to get my mother to hunt around for the reciept back home and send it here, and i don't even know if i have any kind of warranty anyway. i just want to get the damned thing fixed. does anyone know where i can take it in korea to get fixed? thanks.[/img]

Sorry to have no answers.

First, I don't know much about the inner workings of the camera; not enough to diagnose the problem in any way, and second, I have a Canon and have never had to visit the repair center.

I would guess you just need to find the local Olympus dealer and go from there? I certainly don't know of any generic camera repair shops....with all the proprietary tech inside these things nowadays, best to find the dealer.

I don't think the warranty would cover "forcing the lens back into the body" anyways. Wink

Don't know if this helps mate, but there are a load of camera shops in the Namdaemun area. I'm pretty sure the Olympus one is (if you're coming from City Hall) on the corner of the first right you can take (the one before the one that goes to the station - clear as mud, eh?). I know they repair them at those shops because a mate of mine works at the Nikon shop (nearer the market) and when my little finepix went, he took it to the guy at the Fuji shop and got it sorted.

PM me if you need better directions than that. Hope you get it sorted.
