As far as "professional" can be. Do you have a web address?

Each city has them, i believe. At the one hagwon where I worked, the director told me that she had a monthly meet with all Hagwon owners.

The old one that I have for Seoul is down, but I have Daegu's. I'm very tight with the guy who runs it, who happens to be a really wonderful person, and who will be the direct recipient of any emails or posts that comes his way and I don't want to cause my friend any potential grief by putting the link up on Daves. You can PM me in private if you want to talk about it or about getting in touch with him.

Yes, there definately are.

And I've been told that they often have speakers who discuss things like how best to "bend" the law in their favor when it comes to firing teachers. No joke. A Korean teacher I used to work with told me this. They school hagwon owners on tactics, both legal and illegal, in dealing with English teachers. And I can tell you, according to my friend, it wasn't from the angle of making sure they're friendly and legal in what they're doing. Stuff like why you should fire a teacher before the 6-month mark, etc.

I know for sure that the bigger hagwons in Changwon have formed one and has been around for quite a while.

Hagwons included are Wonderland, ECC, Jung Chul, Kids Club, et. al.

They all get together and basically are grouping together to keep a cap on costs of teachers i suppose and talk about hagwon related activities.

A year ago, some foreign embassy officers from different countries got together and decided that they would approach the hagwon owners association in Seoul to try and work out some of the more troublesome issues reported to them by English teachers. Needles to say, they were completely ignored.

There is one for Ulsan too. I talked to a foreigner who started a hagwon and joined the association. A hagwon doesn't "have" to join but its better if they do. If a hogwon doesn't join the others will spread rumours about it.

My wife is a hagwon owner. She doesn't participate in those meetings. She's just not interested in dealing with one particular English hagwon owner in our town who I know has screwed over every single foreigner (and their friends) that has worked for him...and I've been here almost 10 years. Worse yet, he's the one the police call when they need an English interpreter.
