I don't understand how people could function without a cell phone here. I don;t bother with a home phone..

As for those pay as you go or credit plan phones, those would drive me nuts.. Loads of people I know have them and they're always bitching about how they have to keep phone off of they can't make a call because they're almost out of minutes...

for 20,000/month at most you can get a plan with unlimited minutes..

Peanuts for such a vital service.

I ended up getting a used phone for W40,000. Now for the service plan...

W20,000 for unlimited minutes? Really? Is this just in Seoul or what?

We have an answering machine at home thats enough connectivity for us. Neither my wife nor I have a cell phone. Nothing more irritating than having a conversation with someone and then hearing that stupid music and have the conversation put on hold while he/she has another conversation.

The other day I was out with a group of guys, all of whom are married or have gf. Each of them had to make a phone call to the wife/gf at least once just to check in. One guy called his wife four times in four hours! I said goodbye to my wife at the door and didnt talk to her again until I came back through the door. No need for such immediacy IMO.

I have a prepaid service that only costs 10,000 won for 30 minutes. Being that I'm not the social butterfly and I don't use it that much, 20,000 won will last me for a month and a half. Basically when I communicate I use text messages, then make the phone calls from my school phone. As I understand, you don't need a Korean co-signer for the prepaid service.

10,000won for 30MIN???
i got a pay-as-you-go phone over the summer and 10,000won lasted me well over a month. i'm pretty sure i talked more than 30min on that phone...Confused

Telemarketers... I just breath heavy down the phone while they are talking to me...

I hate cell phones.

1. People have no etiquette with their cell phones. People have got to the point where even in company they will spend a lot of time talking on the phone. It's down right rude. If you are in company. Keep it.

2. Two foreigners outside the bus station. Another three are coming. They are a little late. So everyone gets on the phone to call the people who aren't there and all you get is... "We'll be there in five..." Or "I'm standing right behind you." Are you any smarter for this? No.

3. Organise yourselves. Most people spend most of their times on cell phones making plans that counter-act the other plans, which leads to more cell phone calls.

4. Do you really need to text 24/7? "Had good dinner. where r u?" Or "Shaged da mrs" Who cares? Do you realise that your spending a lot of time just asking people where they are? Or passing along information that isn't important? What's the point?

5. You know there was a time before cell phones and everyone got along just dandy. I'm still back there and I don't have to worry about the hassle of it all. The more connected this world gets the more dislocated it is becoming. I'd rather not join in.
