I loved Moscow (Mockba!), and found people to be friendly, very helpful, and yes, laid-back. We had some hilarious waiters in that city! The only thing I didn't like about the city was the food. Maybe that's why the waiters were so funny.
Then again, I was there before glasnost.
Big shocker: German-speaking places have rude people. |

| Saigon wasn't especially friendly either, come to think of it. Much of the friendliness comes from people who want your business. But a lot of locals will rip you off. |

Along the lines of worst/strangest places perhaps. Seoul is a rude, and not a friendly city. I haven't been anywhere as rude or with generally as unfriendly a feeling as Seoul. I think even many Koreans would agree that Seoulites can be rude and unfriendly, and not just because it's a big city. An article by a Korean in the English "Joongang Daily" had this very complaint, and thus was concerned about Korea's image, and the impression it made on foreigners.
But for the more travelled of you, I am sure you may have other places in mind. |
Once upon a time, a man was sitting at the side of the road from Delphi to Athens. A traveller came by and addressed the man at the side of the road. "I come from Delphi, and am considering moving to Athens. Before I travel all the way there, can you tell me what the people are like in Athens?"
The man replied, "Tell me about people in Delphi, and I will tell you about people in Athens."
"People in Delphi are the warmest, most caring and trustworthy people one can imagine. Each of them, to a person, I would trust with my life."
The man at the side of the road simled. "I am pleased to tell you that you will find people in Athens are much the same."
Delighted, the traveller continued down the road to Athens.
A short while later, another traveller came along. He too stopped and addressed the man at the side of the road, "I come from Delphi, and am considering moving to Athens. Before I travel all the way there, can you tell me what the people are like in Athens?"
The man replied, "Tell me about people in Delphi, and I will tell you about people in Athens."
"People in Delphi are the most selfish, rude and viscious people one can imagine. Each of them, to a person, would murder you in your sleep without a second thought."
The man at the side of the road frowned. "I am sorry to tell you that you will find people in Athens are much the same."
Disappointed, the traveller returned to Delphi. |

| No way is this board half as rude as so many other ones, where no moderators preside. |

| Drakoi, not even close. If you want rude, go to the Japan Today Forums. There are some truly ignorant people. The Sex and Relationships forum could be the worst. There was a moderator of all people who kept advocating paedophilia and his right to have sex with schoolgirls. He finally got demoted but it was a hell of a battle. Dave's is light years ahead of that forum for civility. |

| Well, you might consider that capital cities are not always indicative of the way the country truly is. Ever been to Bangkok? Ever been to rural Thailand. They are two totally different things. I have never been to Moscow but maybe it is a sh*thole. Perhaps the rest of Russia is more enjoyable. I see nothing contradictory in this. Something to consider. |

I think this Thread is BS!
we can all say every city in the world is the rudest on any given day!
come on..
What one guy experiences another guy will experience different.
someone said ROMA and MATKO (the Anti Italian agreed)!
well to bad for you guys.. perhaps you just moved in the wrong circles!
I have known people who have lived in NEw York and said its the greatest city on earth.. I have met others who said its the worst!
paris, rome, london, seoul, tokyo, milan, sydney, toronto, blar blar blar
they can all be rude! becuase there rude people everywhere..
even on DAVES!!
it all depends.. some people just seem to attract a certain kind of element
where others attract a better set..
just becuase you met a few waiters, or vendors or someone didnt stop to help you for some reason! doesnt mean its a rude city..
anyway this is BS!!! |
I'm not anti-Italian. I thought Italy got robbed in the world cup!
Sorry that Rome had the rudest people of any place that I have visited.
Next time I'll refrain from posting anti-Italian comments to spare your feelings.
On one condition of course.
You stop posting Anti-Korean stuff |

Hey Rawiri, what kind of a name is that anyways; Rawiri? I think you need to read up on what contradict means. Im not at all contradicting myself there buddy although maybe looking at it with your obviously limited point of view, what you meant was that perhaps it was a self for filling prophecy. Big city = sh*t so Moscow being a big city must mean it sucks.
But thats bullocks heaps of bullocks and I call bullsh*t on your deductive methods. Since St. Petersburg, the 2nd most populous city in Russia was a wicked place. People are far more upbeat and friendly there. So it looks like youre the Noob or should I say knob. |

I dont think you can say a city is rude, but some groups of people in a city can have a rude culture. I love the vegitable adjumas in seoul. They always smiled at me and gave me extra stuff. My vote for rudest group is A) Indonesia taxi drivers
B) Beijing subway ticket sellers
But I pose a question, what is the weirdest city you ahve been to. My vote is Taebek Shi. Too many tabangs, wierd mojo. Kept expecting Rod Sterling to jump out. |

And just exactly what is a self for filling prophecy there Maas?. You cast aspertions upon my deductive capabilities on the one hand...and on the other endow us with such gem's as
"Big city = sh*t so Moscow being a big city must mean it sucks".
Really now Maas...i'm beginning to wonder whether or not you actually have much to contribute in terms of the education of the korean populous...perhaps it would be better if you stayed home and kept flipping those burgers there buddy...i'm sure you'll make it to the fries station one day soon if you show a little persistence. |
